Not sure what you guys are brainstorming, but I’ll just throw this out there....

If you’re picking up a complete rig to fix a wrecked rig, you’ll be time and money ahead to just use the good parts off the wrecked rig to fix up the not wrecked rig and roll with that one.
Swap the drivetrain, the suspension, and whatever else the new one needs that the old one has and you’re good to go. Keep the wrecked one for parts later👍👍

About a dozen bolts for a body swap...just sayin". Ability to clean up both body and chassis/drive train much easier while separated.

And fuel hoses, and fuel lines, and brake lines, and wiring, and the steering shaft, and the clutch hydraulic line, and and and and....

Still think it'd be easier and quicker. With more access to work on both body and chassis.

.... Well as long as I am here, I may as well do....
Seems to me you’d be disconnecting all the ancillary stuff Rush mentioned to swap drivetrain, suspension etc. into a different body. Cleaner and quicker to do a body swap.

I think I see what’s going on here. Jim, you’re wanting to add more members to the “Frankencruiser” club, aren’t you?

Not really...who has almost four times as many posts? Just being a realist relaying my experiences with both body swaps and swapping drivetrains with the body intact on the chassis. YMMV.

The original ‘69 drivetrain is very ready to go with 60 knuckles, 3FE, lift, and just everything. I “feel” like body swap would be easier.

plan is to:
-get new body/rig
-pull new body, clean it up, prep, body mounts, paint whatever
-pull old body
-roll old chassis under new fresher body

Or something

With two trips cross-country under your belt I'd say "very ready" is a bit of an understatement. Don't know what the kid is driving in the interim but when my son totaled his very nice 2002 Explorer after a college graduation party we put him in a teal-colored 4 cyl. Mercury Mystique sedan for a couple of years. Lesson learned!
Stop by again if you end up taking it back to Montana.

Who really needs turn signals?

All good points! I think it comes down to how much shop space, and time, and $$$ do you have?
