Hello there-
I recently searched through old posts/FAQ and downloaded the 1997 RSXXX alarm manual.

After programming last weekend I can get the Cruiser to do everything except "auto-lock" the doors after exit. I wanted to program it to automatically lock the doors and turn on alarm after a 30 second delay. What it does now is arm the alarm after a 30 second delay, but no locking. (The door locks do work normally otherwise though).

This is really annoying because several times in the last week the wife/and or kids have opened the cruiser doors in the garage to get something out of the truck, and then shortly thereafter the neighborhood is alerted to this at 110 decibels!

Anyone have exeprience with this? There does not seem to be any "slowness" or hesitation with the door locks if I lock them with the master.

Cheers!

I just wish that mine would "auto-lock" when I put it in reverse or on the way past reverse to drive. I am sure there is a way to do it.

Sounds like you're looking for an easier way to lock your keys in your rig.

The autolocking when your turn the key in the ignition isn't good enough?
Does yours not do this?

Yeah, I did think of that. I have an extra key underneath the car in case of that.

One thing I forgot to mention is that it does (automatically ) unlock the doors upon removing the key from the ignition - if I locked them myself while driving around.

I'm thinking about taking the D.S. door panel off and cleaning everything (including the window switches) to see if there is a short or loose connection.

Maybe I'll just put it back to not doing anything automatically if I can't figure it out.

Doug- It will only unlock the doors when removing the key from ignition. The entire time I have owned it (2 years) the doors have never locked themselves when I insert the key in to the ignition when starting it.

I did not even know it was supposed to until reading this post just now.

Thanks- maybe I can narrow it down now that I know what "normal" is supposed to be!

if you turn the ignition with all doors closed, the default should be that the doors all lock.

assuming none of the doors are opened while the key is still in the ignition and the engine is on, the doors should all unlock when you turn the key to remove it.

...that's how mine have all worked.

And mine as well. I think it's the default programming of all 80's theft deterent systems.

i think the 30 second lock is a default setting as well (press unlock but dont open a door for 30 seconds and it auto relocks)

Mine does not lock when you turn the key, nor does it unlock when you turn the key. It doesn't do any of that....and now that you all have said this....I WANT TO KNOW WHY!

Crap.....

I have a cheesy TDS key fob and a switch under the dash that is some type of a kill switch (retarded mid-nineties disabler).

I want mine to lock and unlock nammit!

Mine has a cheesy kill switch also- was that a factory thing? It doesn't look like it.:bounce2:

factory/oem? or...some other crap?

I always thought those disabler things were crap...glad they didn't last long.

My silly inlaws thought they were so great...had to have them in all their cars...

no kill switch on factory set up.

It is a dealer install that was basically a cheap markup that they added on. Cost is probably 20 bucks, but they charge 1000 for them.

Now I am pretty irritated about it.

Speaking of alarms...funny/odd thing happened to my alarm this weekend. Going down the highway, all of sudden the horn starts honking, interior lights start flashing and head lights start flashing. I'm instantly thinking this isn't good, electrical melt down starting? Turns out I had asked my wife to carry the other set of keys and key fob. She somehow accidentaly pushed a button on the fob in her pack which set off the alarm, once she changed position in her sit the noise stopped! Exciting stuff.
