Has anyone A/B'd the throttle response controller vs "manual shifting" (S1-S6)?
I have a 2021 Luxury Sport trim GX460 and I only drive in manual mode, as opposed to "D", and I get pretty good throttle response. The same type response I'd expect if I had a manual shift, actually better.

Just wondering if a throttle response controller is that much better

thanks in advance

I hated the Pedal Commander, even on the lowest setting. It made taking off from stops jerky. At 75 mph on level ground the pedal was barely depressed so it was overly difficult to modulate speed. I can adapt to anything but I have definite preferences for how controls should work, and that's not it. Many people love it. YMMV. There are other similar devices that may have a more sophisticated pedal mapping.

I use S mode nearly every time I drive but usually to limit the trans to a gear for driving up or down steep hills. I have used S6 at times and not noticed a significant difference from D. I'll have to experiment more with it. The manual says that in S mode AI-SHIFT is disabled, and it's enabled in D mode. AI-SHIFT is Toyota's system for code in the TCU that learns a driver's style. I used to have a problem with a system like that on my VW Eurovan where it learned to upshift earlier than I wanted. I'd periodically reset the system to make it forget.

Because of the steep mountians I live in, I wind up using a lot of throttle in D bat times on nearly every drive. If yours has learned to drive like a granny and mine hasn't, that might explain why I don't notice a difference between D and S mode and you do.

how did you reset the AI shift?
S6 is very much like D, but at highway speeds, I'd expect that. I dont shift into overdrive unless I'm up around 85+. At that speed, I'm taching high enough to get enough response.

thanks for your reply
