i belive i may have broken my atrac because it engages on its own and even in 4 hi without me pushing the button, i dont know if this is bad but i dont mind it, i havent done any modifications to the computer or any wiring either just installed my cb to the aux power port, any ideas on what may have caused this? or if its bad for the truck? thanks

Can't possibly be good. How do you know it is engaging? Can you hear the "chattering" of the ABS or do you simply have lights coming on your dash display? If it's just dash lights, it could be a number of things, but I'd bet money that your ADD actuator on the front axle is glitchy. If you actually can hear the ATrac cycling through the ABS system, then you have a larger problem that could lead to other issues. If this is the case, I'd go to the dealership or to a knowledgeable Toyota mechanic ASAP.

As mentioned in other posts (search and they'll turn up) the ADD switch has some sketchy electrical connections that can be solved by simply soldering the contacts. If the ADD is acting up, it will send a signal to the ECU that will in turn present dash lights that may include Atrac/4WD/Trac.

thanks, ill bring it to the dealer, im getting the lights and the chattering

Are you sure its the ATRAC? Do you have VSC? I know when I had my FJ that if the tires broke loose on wet pavement it would feel like ATRAC but it wasn't.

Yeah, I'd verify that its the ATRAC or VSC. I'd also not be too concerned, no reason it will cause any problems running around town. But, if you are hearing the "chattering", that is the ATRAC working the brakes. If I recall, the VSC will work more on the engine than the brakes.

Yet, I agree with Rick that it is more than likely the ADD actuator sending the message to the ECU that its engaged.

Definitely worth a dealer trip, hope they can come up with a decent troubleshooting plan...
