OK, here's the deal. I have a 79FJ40 that has been sprayed previously. I don't know the history or quality of the paint used. It definately has been repainted in the past.

I have some rust areas in the rear quarter panels I need to take care of. There's a few other spots where the paint has a small bubble where rust is coming through.

The rig gets used a lot. I really don't want to tear down the whole thing and am not into a restoration.

My question is this.............

What is the process you would recommend (in as much detail as possible) for my rig to get from where it sits today to a rig with a good, but not over the top paint job? Also, not interested in a rattle can paint job.

Post some pics of the troubled areas so we can get a idea...::

I'm not so much talking about the troubled areas. The rust areas I'm going to cut out and repace w/ metal. My question is more about what to do with the paint. I'll get a picture of what I've got.

For example, if I don't know the quality of the paint do I need to sand the whole thing down or just rought it up and paint over? What grit. Then what?
