Spring is coming!

I wanted to use a hoist system as most have but my garage is too short. A search turned up many hoist options but I couldn't find anything else other than what dgangle did from this thread:

Has anyone put together a rack that would hold the hardtop vertically? If so, pics would be great.

And no, I don't want to take the whole thing apart. As easy as the storage would be, I hear it's a pain in the a$$ to put back together.

Got mine vertical on a rack off the floor. Seems pretty good but haven't put the top back on since it's been sitting for 9 months. Will take a picture of the set up mananna. Don't forget to pad up your hard top posts before removing completely...trust me. And oh yeah, def use at least 3 people when you do it.

Sorry it took so long. It ia acutally really hard to see my set up with the top on it. Basically it is constructed of 4X4's joined with L brackets and sheeted with heavy plywood. I added a layer of remnant carpet over the ply. The entire holder is titled higer in the front to the brunt of the weight sits on the highest surface area of the top in the back. Like I said it is really hard to tell from the pics but here you go. I expect to be able to put some wheels under the rack when I plan to move for easier transpo.

I understand your apprehension. I disassembled mine to maximize my available storage.

I don't see the difficulty reassembling. What gives?

I don't like to disassemble my top. Too many stripped out holes (from years past) and it has difficulty lining back up. Worked much better keeping it intact last year.

Seems to me that rack would bear the weight of an LC top in some bad spots. The 40 tops are super heavy too. I've taken the top off my 2 door wrangler unlimited and it was way lighter....personally I wouldn't trust something made out of PVC to store my top upside down for a long period of time but that's just me. Besides wood is so easy to work.
