I feel like the seat cushion in my 2001 LC is shot. I just purchased 6 months ago and it's approaching 200k miles. Leather is in very good shape, so just want to replace cushion if possible. Looks like an OEM cushion for the drivers side can be purchased for around $150. Curious to know if anyone's done this, and how long it takes. Does the seat have to come out?

I have added foam to passenger side and sewn up a seam. The seat cushion has to come out as you have to gain access to the hog clips that hold the leather on.

However maybe you can unbolt just the cushion and maybe you can bolt it back up.....maybe. I just took it out to gain access.

I used, hog clip pliers, hog clips and a helper to push at the right spots. If you new it's a 4-6 hour job. If your an old pro...... less. One last suggestion is to label the connectors as I recall one or two can be interchanged.

Once the weather cools down I'm going to install new leather on my seats. I plan on steaming the foam to revive it, but if that doesn't do enough I'm curious where you got your foam? I may need to add some to supplement the old stuff.

Also, any suggestions on a particular style of hog ring/hog ring pliers?

I got the foam from here Upholstery Foam: Sculpting, Pleating, & Sheets and they have the pliers and rings. I got away with just straight pliers and I did the cushion and the back. I steamed three times and then added some trimmed foam. I think I used 1/2 hog rings. I feathered the edges to ease the transitions and take out unneeded bulk. It seemed to work, since then I have seen the car show guys doing the same thing.

I don't see how it could be done without taking thee seat out. I replaced the foam in my driver's side, using OEM replacement, as it was in bad shape - and the upholstery for both DS and PS. Steam is your friend, but a few days in the sun will do almost as well if you don't have a steamer. I too used a set of straight hog ring pliers.

Did you notice a difference after replacing with new a cushion?

Thanks cmck. Just looking at their site, did you get the 2" foam, or the 3" foam?

Just used 1" medium firmness to add a little of extra cushion on top. A week after I finished we drove 6,000 miles (3 weeks) so I guess I got it right.
