Anyone particularly happy with their gas grill?

I had a NG Charbroil...get this...with no ng line. Discovered this after I ran a fence and other improvements.

So I bought a bottle-fed Charbroil Infrared....still have not fired it up. Plan to soon, but the reviews indicate great rusting if you do not "season" the grill parts. No cover, 6 months old, no rusting yet.

I will RTFM and do what it says, but I was limited because the outdoor kitchen space is limited, and this one fit. About $400 at Lowe's

You see, I know how to google it, but google often sucks for things like this, and with actual owners of the grill I thought it better to ask.

No matter, I found another owner with the same dilemma who led me to this:
Schematics Diagram

I then found a parts wholesaler who was willing to provide me with the NG manifold without cross referencing a serial number as Weber typically requires. The manifold is the only piece that differs (in any meaningful way) between the grills, and the cost for the NG manifold is about $10 more than having the gas company come out and drill the existing manifold.

All said and done I still got a steal on the grill and I have the LP manifold I can swap back on if it ever needs warranty work. I understand companies are hesitant to make conversion systems available due to liability, but damn with Weber it's a pain to find the right parts and someone willing to sell them without a serial number.

It's also clear that, despite being $500, this is a very well designed simple stainless steel grill that will "just work". None of that stupid flim-flam nonsense or useless side burners... it's just a high quality grill with nice thick stainless steel construction. Exactly what I was looking for.

Sorry, I just love that app but very rarely have the opportunity to use it appropriately. I'm glad you found what you were looking for.

another vote for weber genesis.

also check the home despot models carefully. when we looked it had a smaller burner, different knobs and a non-stainless grill.

consumer reports has extensive ratings of grills. Some less expensive ones come out very strong and better than other far more expensive ones.

I am going to vote to skip the Weber and go with a Broilmaster. Broilmaster

My dad bought one in 1981, I inherited it in 1987, used it through college, moved it dozens of time and finally rolled it (fully functional) to the curb 2 years ago. The only reason I retired it was my wife bought me a Big Green Egg for our anniversary (I love that woman!) and after cooking on an Egg I had no desire to ever cook with propane again... Flash forward a year and I found myself feeding 50 people in the back yard and needed more grill space. All the reviews said a Weber Genesis was the one to have so I grabbed one and brought it home. They work OK when compared to the cheaper models but are by no means the class of the field. My biggest beef (pun intended) with them is the burner layout. Splitting the burners front to back instead of side to side is a serious design flaw for the person who wants to cook indirect. The grills are not up to the standard I was used to from a 30 year old design and the body is much lighter gauge than the cast aluminum of the Broilmaster. There are a few other things I don't like about the Weber but they are a bit more nick picky than anything else.

If You really want to eat good BBQ get a Big Green Egg or a Primo. You wont miss the gas grill I promise :-)

Personally I hadn't noticed that you aren't allowed to split the grill front side/back side for indirect heat instead of only left side or right side. Front and back has been working fine for me, but I'll stop now that I know it's against the rules.

When cooking on your egg, how can you tell which is left and right vs. front and back on the round grill?

I look down at my hands, the one holding my beer is my right hand so the meat closest to the beer is on the right side. As far as front or back goes if you are having trouble getting your meat in you are likely at the back...

I can tell you nate that down here it doesn't matter what you buy, the burner will rot out quick. I've used Jenn-Airs, Webers, Front Gates, whatever, they've all done it in a year.

I bought a Barbeques Galore stainless store brand and it's run flawlessly for the last 3 and a half years- we use it at least once a week year round with 3+ times per week not uncommon. It was expensive, but it's been very easy to live with.

Looks like the store brand line is a lot smaller- I have a three burner free standing grill which isn't on their website.

Dallas doesn't have the humidity of SW Florida- cast iron generally only lasts 2 years here. The burners on the BBQ Galore grill are stainless and they still look great.
