Anyone ever bake good pies in Dutch Ovens?

issue is with dutch ovens is you have to have the heat just right. A pie is a tricky thing. Because there's so much fat in the crust it will scorch easily. I suggest upside down pies...a cobbler or crisp.

i cook a great peach cobbler in mine----

3 sticks of real butter
3 cups of SUGAR
3 cans of peaches ( save the juice off one can, empty all 3 cans in the dutch oven)
3 cups of self rising flour
stir well---use the juice off of can 3 of the peaches , and to it to make it kinda soupy:hillbilly:but not too soupy :eek:
3 brown eggs
get your coals right:mad:..hot and red that is........

put about 9 coals on the bottom, and 12 to 15 on the lid...........and keep a close check on it........make sure it has a nice brown crust on the top------

enjoy with some nice vanilla ice cream and a campfire:D:D:D:D

i make this at my hunting camp---------fine eatin:hillbilly::hillbilly:

Basically the same as Assasins above but just use a yellow cake mix poured right on top of a can of peaches. The cake mix turns into the sweet crust of the cobbler. Elk camp heaven. Yum Yum.. :)
