Hey y’all, still pretty new to the area and I have a surprise day off tomorrow. Would love to get a little dirt therapy in if I can. Looking for places I can explore off-road within 1-2 hours of Whispering Pines. I’m running a 96 LX450 with stock height suspension, factory lockers, and 33 in KO2s. Looking for something I could safely solo. Thanks!

Welcome to the area! I’m sure you’ve heard about Uwharrie. If you’re military, and can come up with a good excuse like fishing, you can check out some of the training area on Ft bragg. There’s tons of fire roads.

Thanks! Unfortunately, I’m not military but drive through Bragg quite a bit on my commute and have been eyeing those fire roads. But as far as Uwharrie, I’ve heard some of the trails are extreme, are the others fairly easy?

All depends on your frame of reference. Is a paved road easy? Gravel road medium? Then yes, Uwharrie is extreme.

Stay to the tails marked easy on the usfs map and you can do it in a stock truck. Always go with a buddy though, bonus points if that buddy has experience on those trails.

Your best bet is to come out to Logan’s run and have some of the experienced club members guide you through the trail system in Uwharie.
Not to mention experienced club members can show you things to carry on the trail. Things like basic tools and recovery equipment.
