Been doing my homework on this. what are your preferred mounting ways?

Diff end - welded bracket to housing - pro's - stout as the welding work - cons - might warp the housing from the heat, as strong as the welding work (if the welder can't weld... i.e. me).

bracket that bolts to the Diff studs - pro's - removable, won't tear a chunk out of the housing if it all goes wrong. con's - thats alot of load to put on those studs IMO

xmember end. does anyone use the standard tube X member? or am i better making another xmember up? i was considering incorporating the mount into the bash plate i was going to make

centered, welded, better than OEM crossmember

JK Customs makes a darn nice one...mine was custom, and not nearly as pretty..

I added some plate on my stock cross member and I have land on my anti wrap bar hard and hasnt moved at all. I have 2 plates (1/4) welded pretty close to the 3rd and I ran both of my housing I had in it like that. Never warp housing.or wrip.

just reading your writeup on your wrap bar build woody, how did welding the nut to the DOM hold up? i was thinking that might be a weak point, and was considering tapping instead. but if yours held up, i doubt i'm going to abuse it as hard as you have.

and is DOM the standard? or overbuild?

Take your time with welding to the housing and you will be fine. I welded an inch at a time and waited 5-10 minutes before continuing, Jumped around as well. Burn it in hot, that axle mount see a lot of torque. I built my wrap bars out of heavy wall pipe, seam to the inside. Last one held up fine for many years, lower tube got a little tweaked over time.

I cut the old cross member "tube" out and took it to a local fab shop. He bent me a new one out of .125 DOM. I had him make it longer so I could move the tube back to make room for the Toy Box. IIRC he charged around $40 and the new one looks like factory.

Would welding some 1/8 or 1/4 wrapped around the axle housing and welded good with some rosette welds help any?
This would be about an inch or so past the surface area of the mount. Basically just making the housing thicker in the area that the mount is welded to.

Looks good fj40forlife. Could you show a pic of how it attaches to your crossmember? Is it just tabs welded onto the stock crossmember?

mine

Sorry for the "dirty pictures"

I has used the ruff stuff mount (30 bucks) for my last build and plan on that for the current one as well.
Used and 1.25 DOM for the x member and made a shackle hanger off it. Worked great and never had any problems.

Tried to find some pics for you, but I must have lost em when my comp crashed....

DRAG!
