While serious, the repair really is minor.

We have to remember that prior Land Cruisers never had this sensor to begin with. I guess the saying goes, the more parts, the more can go wrong would be correct.

Recalls happen all the time.
My dad's Ranger has had about a dozen minor recalls since we got it seven years back, my mom's F150 about three, my sister's Matrix about two. It's just the company being respsonsible and cleaning up when they realized a part won't survive outside the lab testing.

But Pagemaster's absolutely right: the more lights you hang on the Christmas tree, the easier it gets to burn the house down.

The vehicles affected left their assembly plants with working monitoring systems, but when accessory wheels were installed, the systems were not recalibrated and now lights to warn drivers of low tire pressure may fail, the report said.

...and how is this Toyota's fault when users install upgraded wheels?

does anyone know for sure if this is only a problem with upgraded wheels? i did read the verbage above, but would be interested in independent confirmation.

JBHorne,
1) if installing accessory wheels do you have any idea of what it costs to have the sensors recalibrated?

2) as I understand it the wheel sensors are calibrated when vehicle is new- after rotating tires and loosing track of what went where is there an easy way of knowing which tire pressure reading in the information screen is applicable to which tire on the vehicle?

I don't know the answer to your first question.

Second question, the answer is negative.
