Ive done some digging on prior mud threads, but I was wondering what 80 Series folks here were running viscosity wise for the Colorado late Summer/Fall season? I am currently running 5W30 Mobile One full synthetic, but am burning a lot of oil... about 1Qt every 1500 miles. If I run a heavier weight 10W40, will that be sufficient protection in cold fall starts? (She will be garaged during most of winter.)

Any other weights/brands I should consider?

Thanks!!!

I run 10W30 year round. I tried running 5W30 in the winter once, but got alot of valve train noise.

Mobile 1 or Rotella T6? I will give 10W30 a shot!

Mobile 1

That makes no sense, a 5w30 and 10w30 are the same protection once at running temp. The 5w30 is always better for cold starts. Try a 40 weight, 0w40 or 5w40. Syns will always be less susceptible to burning as well. You most likely have a serious leak somewhere or everywhere lol... mains, oil pump cover, oil cooler etc.

You'd think so ... but when I went to went to the heavier oil the noise stopped. I've seen it mentioned a few times in the 80s section. I definitely have some leaks - not sure how that relates to the valve noise.
