I have been hard at work getting my 700R4 installed into my 40 in order to make it to the Badlands this weekend with some of our Chicago area friends. I wasn't able to get it done in time, so Carl and I decide to go up with his rig and make a day of it. He spent most of the morning driving me around, but after lunch he let me take over the driving duties. We went to the quarry and I was trying to get used to the different fell of how his rig handles. All was going good, when we got to one upper section of a rock garden where I wasn't feeling comfortable about our stability. Carl said we were fine, but I decided to get out of the rig to let him drive through the section. I stood on the high side of the hill and tried to spot him through, when all of a sudden I was seeing too much drivetrain and not enough Carl. After that it happened so fast...drivetrain, Carl, drivetrain, Carl, drivetrain, Carl, etc. I yelled for the others in the group to come quick, because Carl barrel rolled 4.5 times down the side of a hill and I was freaking out! Thankfully Carl pops up out of the passenger side window once the rig stopped on it's side. Carl starts running around trying to get the rig back on it's wheels, but I made him sit down to let the adrenaline wear off. He was unhurt except for some bruises and a small cut on his head. John pulled his rig back over and it started right up after reconnecting the battery which disconnected in the roll.
Damage was relatively minor considering the violence of the roll. A pillar is tweaked a little, busted windshield, bent cage and blown trunion bearings on the driver's side. A day or two of work and it will be good as new again!
