well..i did it
was a lil scared but it always seems to turn out ok
worst case scenario i'd have to spend $100 to replace the fender
it started out like this...
a year or so ago i found a lil water and sank the ss yotataco in about 5 feet of water on a drunkin escapade at barney riley, ca.

which forced me to do this...for three days

but what better spot to do this than next to the river and in walking distance to the hot springs!

anyway...
researching and concluding that a custom snorkel is about $300 less than a "name brand" i set out to collect some goodies!
found this on eeebay for under $30

should do the trick!
and down to the hardware store for some more goodies
10 feet of sched 40 pvc conduit at under $10
a fitting from the gutter section at uner $2
and some flex stuff and hose clamps from the auto store and i was well on my way

first i took off the fender to see what was there...

well well...looks like a lil trimming trimmimg to make room is needed
here is the most of what needed to be removed

don't forget to paint your edges for rust reasons...and make it mysterious black inside your huge fender hole!
did someone say huge fender hole?
(start small and make it fit!)
i also used the center cardboard roll out of some x-mas paper to do a mock up

omfg!
too late to turn back now!~
bought a lil rubber hose and split it's belly to lay around the inside of the hole...perfessional s*** here!

slipped the big black pole in the nicely padded hole and "whalaaa"
lil left over aluminum angle from the solar panel install slipped in under the door trim and securely screwed in made a nice support to clamp 'er in

connected the flex from snorkel to stock intake and siliconed the heck out of her!

not bad for a few hours!
now i need to find a river...

Love your rig and snorkel! Our trucks are similar. What kind of lift are you using? I just ordered a Safari snorkel...I'm not too good with a wrench.

the front is a fagtech and the rear is a bunch of leafs all piled together with some long ass shackels

I'm thinking of upgrading the rear to a set of Deaver's in hopes of improving the ride. I've got Donahoe Coilovers up front.

a quick fix i learned...
roll of duct tape!
before water entry...jump out and tape all the door seams...climb back in the window
and dont stay in the water too long...your lil thingy will shrivel up!

What-a-dork. Had to pull my kid outta the backseat and toss her in the river "swim for shore".

i sense a lil jealousy..perhaps its from the blue beaver not ever making it across the river???

Was with another one of those Tacoma people, children in a mans world.

Was also wondering if you used an aquarium type silicone, since I have heard that the offgasing of regular silicone may mess with the MAF sensor and throw codes on the computer? Or did you get a carb on that thing also?

Thanks for the thread!

This was the inspiration that put my 4Runner under the knife. Not 3 days later and I had this. Untested as of right now but looking good for tomorrow. I used normal caulking with no ill effects. The snorkel actually seems to have added a great deal to my MPG's. I was getting 200mi on a tank (18gal) now 250. So a good 2.5 MPG's and that's never a bad thing.
