The Cruiser
told me no more paying to have the lawn taken care of in 2012 .
Well I started for the look out for a cheap ride on . Found a older 5 HP Craftsman rear motor ride on for $50 . I was told over the phone it worked fine, ran and they were moving that weekend so they wanted it gone .
I go over with my truck and trailer and meet the woman and pick it up. gave the pull starter a tug to make sure it wasn't ceased up and felt like to had compression .
I hand her a Grant and get ready to load it up when she asks if I'm interested in a push mower that the pull start had broken for free .
Sure why not , so next thing I know she gives me a 6 year old 21" Troy Bilt self propelled mulching that used to have electric start but crapped out and then they broke the cord a few months before (believed her as the gas really smelled like gas not varnish )
Once I started pushing that to load it up she hands me 2 weed whackers , One had the starter string hanging out and the other looks ok .
I left with 2 mowers and 2 weed trimmers for $50 .
Tonight I replaced the starter rope on the push mower and repaired (removed) the chute safety on it (wont run without the bag or the cover on but that part that triggers it is gone and no longer made so away it went ) Ive made it 41 years and know not to stick my hand into a running lawn mower .
Runs great ,will replace the blade as the old one has seen better days (seems like mulching softball sized rocks are a little out of its range)
I'll hit it with the $30 CL pressure washer before I put it away till spring
Next up will be maybe seeing if the ride on works
Since 50 deg days in Dec and Jan are few and far between so better use them now .
The weed eaters can be a good colder weather project while waiting for parts for the canned ham trailer project.
Getting to like this CL hunt
