There seems to be very little help with this anyplace. Taking out bolts is real easy, its the electrical connections that are a b**ch.
Here is a pic of the, I think, of the 4 wire terminal (just above the left breather:

and here is a better view:

OK, what do you need to do to pull that connection.

There is also another electrical connection just below this one. How to you detach that one.

Thanks, in advance for any help.

Gary

BTW, does anyone want a thread about removing the alt?

OK, what do you need to do to pull that connection.

Never done this on the FJC yet, but the FSM shows that is just a plastic cap with a regular nut underneath holding on the charging wire to the battery. The cap should pry off with a screwdriver. If you break it, just replace it with a universal rubber cover available at any auto parts store.

Squeeze the tab (on the left side of the connector as shown in your photo) from both sides with one hand and pull the other half to the right with your other hand.

the nut is a 10 mm and im pretty sure you cant get the alternator out of the truck by going up and out. youll need to take it out through the wheel well. i had to do this for a taco and its a similar setup, but i havent done one on an fj.

Yep, that's how it comes off. Didn't break it even.

Also correct. One needs to do the plastic cap, unbolting procedure first so as to give enough play in the cable to get the second one off.

You can take the alt out through the area of where the battery sits. Just have to take the battery and tray out first. There is also a bolt holding a ground wire to the frame that if you remove makes it much easier moving all that wiring out of the way to get the alt out.

Thanks again both of you.
