Hi can anyone give m a part no. for the alternator voltage regulator for round headlght please, I dont have one on mindy as it was butchered before i got it and was inside the old alternator. I now have a new alternator that doesnt have a regulator so i need to reinstate the external regulator!

sorry , its a 1989 lj70 round headlight , cant you tell from my profile pic:rofl:
its 12v and i have found a generic one on euro 4x4 but im about to do an amayama order so if i can buy original i would rather

thing about amayma is that they may list a part available until you place your order and then you will get a email saying some parts are not available, kind of a lazy way to sell parts. partsouq is usually more reliable that way. maybe cross check between the two, if partsouq lists a part unavailable and amayama lists it as available most likely it's not available. you can also try ebay australia or other parts stores from australia

main thingis i dont have a regulator for a part no. and i cant see the regulator onthe parts drawings so i need that number...

more specific is it an ome alternator?, for what specific engine?

nearly every aftermarket alt has it's own specific reg. It is an auto sparkie's regular nightmare. Also can be a bit of a scam as they just want you to buy another alternator or reg, as it is cheaper than fixing the one you have.

If taiwan bosch alternator, it is difficult to get a reg for.

Took me ages to get the correct b engine external reg years ago, the wrong regs kept frying the alternator or batteries. Which gets expensive.

So far baxter brand alternators seem to be the best with available regs from my hunting and research.

not sure if we are on the same page...is the alternator 55 amp?
I do not believe a 55amp reg exists, 12v reg yes. But happy to be corrected.
Is that the original manufacturer alternator? What engine and year? Round headlight has not much to do with alternator regulator.

this is a new alternator 4x4 and SUV spare parts and accessories - Euro4x4parts - https://www.euro4x4parts.com/en/search?keyword=Alternator+assembly its a 1989 but has a later engine 2lte i think

Ok, 1989 with a 2lte , helps.
This reg is probably what you want;Genuine Toyota Voltage Regulator Petrol/Diesel - https://www.roughtrax4x4.com/genuine-toyota-voltage-regulator-petrol-diesel.html

I just googled 2lte alternator regulator, went for toyota.

But I would be wary of the quality of the alternator, I can see there is a smorgasbord of aftermarket alternators to choose from in the UK..
Also, it is good to check that the reg plug fits the alternator plug.

Usually best is toyota, then denso or generally a bigger brand name, maybe Hella in your area, not sure.

Higher amps is always good, you can get up to at least 65amp at a glance.
When looking for parts you shall need to state your engine and year. I assume you are at the start of your journey with spanners, so you just have to give it a go and be prepared to make some mistakes.
Matching regs to aftermarket alternators is not always straight forward.
Get an ebay volt meter to plug in your cig lighter, it shall give you an idea of how your battery is going.

Thanks this is a great help. I like the eBay cigarette lighter tip👍
I'm at the end of a 2 yr restoration of the 70 just delving into the electrics. Most of it works now just got the headlights to sort after this
