my dad needs a new AVR for his system...has a HK right now, older one, 5-channel....doesn't need more than 5, but...

two features he DESPARATELY needs...

1> sound delay....the video signal from the d-cable box takes 10-ish seconds to be interpreted by the LCD system in his 42" Samsung....needs something on the AVR that will allow him to compensate, since nothing on the d-cable will let him delay sound (there are aftermarket items for $250-350....not what he wants...) It would be ideal to delay sound on multiple inputs (DVD, dCable, VCR)

2> sound leveling...something that keeps the commercials quieter and the soft/whispers of some movies louder so they can hear it all....again, something specific to certain inputs only.

whatcha got?

I'll look into it for you. I will get back to you in a bit! Does he have a brand preference?

I personally like the Yamaha produces and it looks like the RX-V1600 has the delay feature (Audio Delay for Adjusting Lip-Sync (0–240ms)) and while i am not sure this is the other feature you were looking for it has a Dialogue Lift for Enhanced Dialogue Sound (whatever the hell that means) It is not a cheap unit, what is he willing to spend? we also carry Denon products which would most likely have one that would work. Take a look at both sites and if you find a specific model let me know and I can check pricing.

thanks Al.....Yamaha is a fan of mine too, I'll have him check them out....
