ALL THE INFO ON 1996 toyota plz HELP

So I have a 1989 Toyota and I love that baby but it's just too much little problems. I'm chasing all the problems and I keep making them.... She has a great heart (engine) v6 3.0 tho..... And just stock open in front rear and Manuel locking hubs and I've did few small stuff too most of my mods off. Well the body is in ok condition. Also its a single cab short bed. Little battle scars with trees in walker valley in NW WA. Custom aluminum bumper I built my self.

Well I'll try to make it short I got a friend with 96 Toyota ext cab his grandpa drove and they say the head gasket is out.... It's all stock strait body small dents and stuff. I don't care soo much of what body style I like them all but the question is

1#What is the common problem on that year truck

2#How can I test if it's the head gasket and not the block cracked or valve stuck open or ext.

3#Does any of them stock came with locker? Gears? I heard some ext cab has 4.88? Or just the pre 85?

4#How hard is. It to get to the gasket? Fair? Easy? Hard?

Any info on this 1996 Toyota ext cab 22re? Sry that's all the info I have so far plz help. And also cool spec or info is nice too like package deals or something I should look out for like the v6 with 8 in hears vs 4cyl with 7.5 in

Thx are those 2.4 and 2.6 L comparably good as the old school 22re?

And I know the concept of water in oil but couldn't that be the same with cracked block or head? I'm just trying to avoid buying one with blown eng vs me just tossing in a new head gasket
