Hi 86HJ:
Steve is the lead mechanic at Richmond Toyota. He has been working on my Landcruisers since '74. He is very good. After saying that, you have to remember he works for the dealership. They charge well over $100.00/hr. So doing a whole lift would be very costly. Steve would not touch my BJ's engine. I used Fred Holmes. I just checked with a friend and he told me to talk to Colin at Fred Holmes. They are now out in Richmond. If they cannot help you, they will know someone who can. The master mechanic for the company I work for will only go to Fred Holmes and we have had some very interesting diesel problems. The first thing he asked me was if you are running a Racor filter or similiar?
Let me know how things turn out.
Grant

Terry I had the Toyota shop check to see if the FJ's had the same part number as the Tacoma. You were right the Canadian ones do not have the same number. I don't know how you guys turn down that nut on the front springs. It was not nice. If I had to do it again, I would set it up in a vise out of the vehicle then install it. We found that other people are correct and 2 3/4" will give us approx 2 1/4" lift. Those measurements were from the frame. My frame has a difference in height of 1/8" from side to side. Now I get to play with the shock settings.
Thanks again for your help. I see that you are selling a lot of your product to Canadians. That is good for us up here.

Just talked to Mike in the shop, he says he is now seperating the upper arm from the knuckle and adjusting it that way by hand, thern just swing the knuckle back up & tighten the nut on the upper ball joint to finish it. Thanks for the heads up on the upper arms for Canada, I suspected that might be the issue when you described the problem. We do have 2 different setups down here in the states

EDIT: Just called the dealer for 100% verification

05+ Tacoma upper arm 4WD = P/N 48630-04020
FJ upper arm 4WD = P/N 48630-60020

We could not tighten the nuts the way Mike does it. If I ever get down to California again, I am going to definitely come by your shop and see how you do it. My worry about negative camber was just paranoia. The Cruiser rides just great. I am playing with the gas adjustments right now. I found it swayed too much with the low settings. I went about thirty miles along a logging road last weekend and it was a sweet ride. Next month I get very serious.
Thanks again for all your help.
