Answer and questions

I have installed the same suspension as Bandi. I have mounted the same tires as you have on stock rims. The system is great. The ride is better than stock and I love it. I do have a couple of concerns. The first is that I did not lift the front as much as I should have because I was getting negative camber. The more lift the more the negative camber. The second reason for not lifting the front completely was that I did not know how much lift I needed to allow for the ARB front bumper and winch that I plan to install later this month. The second problem is I worry about the tires rubbing. People say they won't but they are close. Any definitive answer?
If anyone has any ideas about the camber and the lift necessary for bumper and winch, I would love to hear them. What is the easiest way to adjust the front shocks? I don't like the idea of using a hydraulic ram: something about putting my hand into an area that might bite me. One thing I did find out was to do all your measurements from the frame. My body is not level, however, the frame is.

I ordered the All-Pro front lift with A-arm on Tuesday after returning from Whipsaw Trail. I forgot to take measurements before putting the bumper on to see what the total drop was but from using another FJ it looks like almost an inch. I plan on returning it to stock height for now as I do have to park downtown a far bit and it is hard enough to find 6'8" parking. Have you had a chance to see what it is like off road? Where did you have it installed? (Richmond Toyota did one was that you?) I hope to have the Lift here in a few days and find the time to install it or have someone install it before our clubs next outting on the 26&27th. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=76971 I will be more then glad to give you any info on how the bumper and winch effect things.

I'm in Sunshine Hills and drive throw Queenborough on my way into town I'll be keeping my eyes open for you.

So that is you I see in the other Voodoo

I have had Steve from Richmond Toyota work on my Cruisers for the last 30+ years. So, yes that was mine in their shop. I am having problems with negative camber. When I talked to All Pro's installer, he told me that he does not use the A arm. I am planning to lift the FJ tomorrow morning and do have a concern about this problem. I have not gone south to pick up my bumper and winch, but will do that in two weeks. At that point I want to stop working on it and go play. Yes I have had it out around 150 mile. I got stuck in two feet of gumbo and had to walk ten miles to a friends house to get his Bob Cat to pull me out. I was not carrying camera. That was a good thing.

This is what I got from the All-Pro rep and web page
'A 1" uni-ball provides maximum articulation for the Upper A-Arm without binding up like the factory ball joint. These arms are designed to correct suspension geometry on lifted applications'

For my application the articulation is the most importent part of the lift.

Just finished talking to Terry @ All Pro

Terry told me that I do not need the A-arms unless the Canadian models uses Tacoma suspension. So I guess I will get over my paranoia and lift the unit. Steve will be very fast at doing it if you want to use Richmond's facilities.
It is a small world. You knew my FJ was in the dealership. Well this is even weirder. I was coming down island last Saturday with a new utility trailer and a little Toyota car came up beside us. He gave the thumbs up and then wrote down the words "Runner Ryan" on a pad and showed it to me. I had no clue what he was talking about. I shook my head and he drove off. I now know what he was thinking.
Cheers

I'm guessing he thought you were me.:D And I bumped into BC_FJC on the Whipsaw last weekend.

When you drive through Queensborough and are bored drive into the new complex called Coopers Landing. Keep to the right and look in the drive way of the second Burgandy building on your right. If you see a Voodoo, then I am home. I work on the site, my crew lets me play boss so I am there most days and nights. We can compare notes. Then you can tell Runner Ryan that we don't look like each other even on a bad night out.

I will have to call All-Pro tomorrow I was told that I would get the best preformance by doing both...

One of my frends owns a Land Cruiser shop and knows the parts guy at Richmond Toyota. They where talking about my bumper and planned lift when your Trucks lift came up. I think I will install it my self if I have time if not I will get one of the shops from the club to install it.

Speaking of small worlds, Runner Ryan, yourself and I all running into one another. Come join us for Cruiser Days Show and shine on the 26th and camping and trail runs on the 27th. I posted the link to the forum earlier

Here in the states, the Tacoma and FJ Cruiser use the same front shock, but there are differences in the upper control arm where the Ball Joint is located. On the Tacoma the angle is different and the upper ball joint will bind when lifted above 2", whereas the FJ a-arm is angled where the ball joint is mounted so that when it is lifted the ball joint is still in perfect working angle. Jon's Voodoo Blue FJ pictured on our website still has the stock upper control arms and works and aligns perfectly. Sarah's 05 Tacoma required the upper control arms for a 3" lift so everything will flex and align perfectly. You can still run the Upper A-Arm on the FJ, but it isnt required (at least for the US spec FJC's) unless the Canadian spec uses the Tacoma arms with the different a-arm angle.

Terry I had the Toyota shop check to see if the FJ's had the same part number as the Tacoma. You were right the Canadian ones do not have the same number. I don't know how you guys turn down that nut on the front springs. It was not nice. If I had to do it again, I would set it up in a vise out of the vehicle then install it. We found that other people are correct and 2 3/4" will give us approx 2 1/4" lift. Those measurements were from the frame. My frame has a difference in height of 1/8" from side to side. Now I get to play with the shock settings.
Thanks again for your help. I see that you are selling a lot of your product to Canadians. That is good for us up here.

Now I might have to take off the roof rack and lift the hold thing....

Well did you get it? Is the suspension in parts yet?
Do you know where I can get a Warn M8000 winch for a reasonable price. The prices I have been quoted today are way too much. I found a place in the U.S. that was a good price but they cannot enter my credit card numbers right so it is declined.

I can make a call and get a price from a friend for the Warn M8000. As for the lift 2nd box came in on friday, but I have not been able to pick it up yet... hope to get off work early tomorrow and get out to Point Roberts to pick it up.... If I'm real lucky maybe my rock rails will be there too...

I cannot justify rock rails right now. I don't do that type of four wheeling. It would be nice to have so I did not slide into trees as I am trying to navigate Chilcotin gumbo.
The best price I have seen so far for the Warn is $600.00 USD. That is $675.00 CDN.
Thanks for the invite to your soiree this weekend. My problem is I got married 19 years ago this weekend and if I missed that, I would not make it another year. Besides it is nice to have someone else walk out for help when you got stuck. Just kidding dear. REALLY!
When I finally get all the goodies installed, we have a trip planned to go to the Nehalliston Plateau to fish for a few days then go to the Upper Dean to fish there. With my Durango, I could not even think about going to the Nehalliston and we got stuck on the back roads aroung the Dean River. I am a slow learner, I thought I was still driving my BJ so I got stuck three times. If that all works, I plan to go north in November a go looking for a Buffalo.
To get back on topic, that is why I was worried about the All Pro lift.
Let me know how the installation goes.

Hello river walker. This steve guy is he any good? I have a 1986 hj that I'm looking at installing a 4 inch lift to with possible lockers. Also has a slight misfire. Is he a good diesel tech? cause they are hard to find.
Thanks
