My brother in law and I will be doing the CASI Alabama Open chili cookoff again this year. Wanted to throw out an invite to the DLC crowd and see if anyone wants to come cook, or just hang out and drink beer and eat chili. This is a lot, LOT more laid back than the exceptional foundation's chili cookoff, it's also a lot smaller. I've done it for the past couple of years, and it's always a fun day spent outdoors. Worth noting, this is a Texas Style chili cookoff, which means the only things in the chili are meat and gravy, no beans, rice, noodles, or anything else aside from meat and gravy. Any red meat is acceptable.

Details:
  • Date - April 20, 2013
  • Cook's and Show Team Meeting - 10:00 AM
  • Show Judging - 11:00 AM
  • Alabama Championship Black Eyed Pea turn-in deadline - 12:00 Noon, $5 entry fee
  • Chili turn in - 2:00 PM - $20 CASI Chili Entry Fee
  • Judging - 2:15 to 3:00 PM
  • Awards - 3:00 PM

Location:
Oak Mountain State Park Lakeside Pavilion - From park entrance:
Drive about 2 miles to Terrace Drive, a right only turn. A sign at that intersection will direct you to the Park Office. Drive past the office until the road begins to bear to the right and straight in front of you is a sign directing you to go up the hill to Peavine Falls. Keep bearing to the right; do not go to Peavine Falls. Pass several Pavilions until you come to your first Restroom Facility on the left. The Lakeside Pavilion is just past the Restroom on the left. It opens at 9:00 AM.

Rules:
  1. The Black eyed Peas must be (1) warm and (2) nothing in the Black eyed Pea dish can be larger than a Black eyed Pea. Peas may be cooked on site or not. Peas should be prepared from fresh, dried, or frozen peas.
  2. CASI Chili rules may be found at www.chili.org/rules.html. Rules on how to cook
    chili are in Section I. A.
