I have been very happy with the TRD Air Filter on the TRD CAI system.
No problems fouling the mass air flow sensor so far. I keep a spare filter that has been cleaned and pre-oiled. That way I don't have to be in a hurry to do it correctly and filter change happens very fast.

As long as you don't over oil it I don't see where you'd have a problem.

It works great by the way.

Mountainclimber,

See any mileage increase?

Woodeye

Woodeye,

I saw a consistently measurable increase when I put on the TRD exhaust. It was about 1 mpg.

I put the TRD CAI on and I could immediately feel an increase in performance, particularly on hills. They seemed to flatten out a great deal. Worked really great pulling a trailer.

I have not been able to measure a consistent increase in mileage after the TRD CAI. I'm sure there is an increase but not measurable or trackable tank to tank.

All in all the TRD exhaust and CAI did give me a little better performance and sounds great but it would take a long time to justify the expense based on improved fuel economy and savings there.

Did I mention it sounds great? On the downside, I may want to put my foot in it a little too often and probably see any potential increase in mileage go away.

I still get 20 to 22 on the highway though, unless its really windy. 6 speed transmission. In town 15 to 20 depending on how much traffic I sit in.

I'm still glad I installed both. I like the air filter a great deal and its worked out really well in extremely dusty environments. I may snorkelize it next.

I have the TRDCAI and I agree with Mountainclimber...

I am getting 20-21 MPG consistently.
The sound is great combined witht the TRD Exhaust.
The TRDCAI makes the FJ quicker and more responsive.
It actually serves to remind me that hard throttling hurts the MPG's.
It works like this when I floor it the CAI noise increases dramatically and reminds you that you are sucking gas and it may be a good idea to back out of it alittle. At that point you have a decision to make.

I recomend the TRD CAI and TRD Exhaust wholeheartedly............gm

I switched from K&N to the drop in AMSOIL filter and am very happy.... The K&N can be a pain to oil properly without over doing it...and some have reported it does not seal tightly around outside therefore allowing fine dusts to get past filter element.

This only applies to the stock air box though....if running CAI then I cant help you unless it uses a standard size......Good Luck.
