We are looking to do a 2 to 4 week trip from LA to Cabo San Lucas and back up thru Sonora to AZ, and need some advise for tire types for use in sand. We are based in mud regions and have limited experience with sand. (mostly beach so its has high moisture content)

We run TSLs on our FZJ80. Anyone have experience in SW/Baja sand with TSLs? Usable or in soft sand at 5PSI do they just dig a truck down to the axles?

I know a lot of people think both KOs and KO2s are the gold standard for sand, as they don't dig thru the sand, but they don't come in 36" 16s.

Thoughts, comments, warnings, heckling....?

Many thanks!

We drove a 1984 LC in deep Baja sand on some basic all-weather tires, no special treading on them, and it was a piece of cake - up and down small dunes, etc. We let about 10 lbs. out of the tires if I recall correctly. They were really soft. LC was unstoppable!
