Acura TL-Premium Gas Only?

My mom is looking in to buying an Acura TL. The brochure says that if you don't use premium gas the engine will knock intermittently? Any advice appreciated.

My girlfirend just bought an '06 TSX which also requires premium fuel.

Her good friend who's an Acura mechanic said that you could use regular fuel and the computer will re-program itself and it will not knock. The drawback is that you will suffer poor gas mileage using regular.

So might as well use premium fuel to maximize the gas mileage.

Yep. You will get better gas mileage and longer life out of the car if you use premium. Does she know reg is expected to hit $4 by the end of 08'? Gas in England is at $5 right now. They don't drive much, they walk, take the bus or train. Too expensive to drive anywhere. Just a thought!
