Well I will take the oppertunity to start another thread , I have ordered the suspension kit for my wifes fj 80 . we went with the
OME 3 " from MAN A FRE . We oped for a new steering stabilizer , trans kit , knuckle kit , and some cool swag . They had everything we needed in one spot ! :clap:Has anyone started thinking anymore about a place and date to meet? And how many people do we need to accomadate ? I have about 5 - 6 people ready to do this and are honest , and trustworthy
Toyota lovers !! I am still looking for some fj 8o parts, and
a few more parts for my 'GRANNYS TERCEL" . I am wanting to find out more on these hydrolic setups , and what to strart considering with this ? ANYBODY ??? That is my time today !!

KEEEEP ON , KEEEEEPNNN ON

My 4runner has a 3" OME lift.It was on the truck when I bought it. To be honest, it's the roughest riding rig I own. I'm not very impressed at all. The leaves are pretty thick, a lot thicker than stock leaves. Hope yours will fare better.

On the "hydraulic" subject, are you referring to hydro-assist steering? If so, I have a little insight. My setup cost about $150.00 for the parts, doing the labor myself. It's really only needed for running large tires. (I'm running 38.5's)

Yeah I have heard that a couple of times about OME , I would like to think here soon we will be considering bumpers and recovery equipment. That should help it out a little ! I still need to set aside a weekend to install it and a few otherthings . yes hydro assist is what I am talking about , I would consider my toyota more of a trail rig at this point, but have not
installed powersteering yet . So at this point I wonder if I should just put more into a hydro-assist setup.. I dont know that I would really want any larger than 42s , i have 35s now.
But all things considered it seems worthwhile , and now is the time . I did get all the brakeing system finished this last weekend
which is a big relief .. Anyhow thats my time .. for now .. pm me a more specific detail on that 150 dollar setup .

With hydro-assist, you'll still need power steering. The hydraulic ram "assists" your power steering setup in handling a bigger strain (big tires/ rocks wedged against tires, etc) It's like putting the power steering on steroids.
To add hydro assist, you tap your power steering gear box on the high and low pressure sides and run hoses from there to a hydraulic ram mounted between your tie rod and a fixed object, usually the pumpkin on the axle.
Here's a pic of my ram and how it's oriented.

Here's where I tapped the box on the low pressure side. The high pressure side is too dificult to get a pic of, but you get the idea.....

If your rig's gonna be trail only, full hydro might be an option for you. It'll cost a little more than the power steering, crossover steering, and h-a pieces, but you'll have less clutter under the hood, and less items to source. I doubt you could get it by inspection if you drive it on the street though.

42 inch tires WILL require a hydraulic steering setup of some sort. If I were to jump any in tire size, full hydro would definately be installed

Thanks , It is sort of short-cutted , but well thought out . I got it from a mudder and was beat all up and not maintained at all . Now being a Toyota guy I seen it and had to have it , it still needs a few things to be ready for its first adventure ! I have been putting alot more time on my wifes 80 . Luckly enough
the weather is shaping up ,GOODTIMES.. Thats my time !
and Thanks again..

My advice of steering is full Hydraulic. 2x8 ram and PSC has the cheapest orbital valves, unless you get on pirate or here and find a used one. If you don't care about street-ability any valve will work. Hydraulic steering is NOT street friendly but one of the best add-ons there is. I would go with a 9cfm valve, that will keep you close to stock (3 turns lock to lock). You are more than welcome to come look at mine if you need an idea on how it works and to set it up.

Lift kits, I can't help you there. I used custom springs.

My buddy Jeff build those rock rings for you! I dig them.

Absolutly , that would help me out alot and Im not conserned with it being streetable . I think first things first, I am tyring to
keep it from leaving me sitting ! It will do o.k. for now anyhow !
I would like to have the suspension set up right first , it is wore out and dried up right now . I will find some springs soon enough and go through it ,, and fix some leaks .. and I will stop there for now the list goes on and on .... I will be doing my wifes 80 in the next few weeks , We now have enough cool stuff to install to keep me up at night ! And she is stoked aswell which is nice
no to mention helps . And would like to look at a few rigs to find out what is what and why!! and would like to show mine aswell .

Thanks for the insight, and I will take you up on that .
We'll talk soon

That tercel is pimp! Is the frame a mini truck frame? Looks kinda like it. You could do a cheap junkyard lift for that with 63" chebby springs in the rear($15 bucks at pic and pull) and rear springs in the front. This will give you a decent lift(not too tall) and allow you to take the body lift out. The front axle is a mini truck right? If so then do the cross over steering first then you can worry about ram assist later. Redneck has done most of what I just described to his rig and it works great. He can prove you don't need millions to make a nice dependable trail rig. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Im not sure on specifics on the frame but yes it is a mini frame .
And w/ a few mods the body lift can be taken off, the gas tank will need to be removed mainly, and at that time the utility rack can be cut off aswell.. I dont have a torch , or the fuel cell at this time either . If I had some specifics and encouragement (better known as help) I will certainly do a poor boys setup !
And the cross over steering will be my next purchase , Im just not real sure what year and whatnot I have here.. not specifically anyhow . I need a few more eyeballs on it !!
And thanks I dig it alot too !!! I will also make mention I am picking but a up a 66 fj40 today w/ a title It is rough and busted up. But I needed something in my yard thats not bought at Home Depot !!Anyhow lets make some plans because it will be top heavy and the suspension now is junk , it just looks cool at this point.. I have made sure it starts, stops runs and drives but I dont know to what extent .. I would like to wheel it on its First true outting on the 4th of july w/ you guys !! So let me know ....

I am more than willing to swing by and take a look at what you got and share some insight(I only have three brain cells so don't expect alot). You just say when and I'll try and be there. Just don't invite that quartknee guy...he smells bad. :hillbilly:

Anyhow !! Thanks !!

Stepping in way late - but I had a couple of questions - On yor tercel, (cool tercel by the way) Did I catch on one of the other threads that you are running a small block chevy? Or losin' my mind? If so, I may be able to help with the power steering. I still have the hoses and pump I used on mine when I was running a small block.

Thanks , yeah it does have a small block chevy setup, 350 turbo and a np203 .I would like to upgrade everything after I get all the bugs and kinks out .. That would be a tremendous help with the p/s pump setup .If I remember right a 305 has a big fat balalncer and this one does too. I assume it would be a high mileage combo from some ones early model chevy. If your pump will fit I could sure use it . PM me your info and I will swing by w/ some $$$$.. The steering is what I am working on as we speak .And any help is good , THANKS and "GOOD LOOKING OUT !!" I like yours, What size tire and wheels do you run on it ?
