so i was reading a build up and they brought up that the propeller has some pit falls, i have 2 rigs with them that will be wheeling this year and was wondering if there that much of a problem? my fj45 hasnt come loose when i wheeled it before and i picked up the fj40 for my wife not running so i dont know if it has had problem. insight? thanks:grinpimp:

I believe the problem is that it transfers all the engine twisting torque though the case plus has the stress of all the weight on it. Basically it changes the way the load and torque goes through the case. I'm not a fan of the design but haven't had one.

I have 2 rigs with them as well - one plate style & one AA adaptor. I think the problem is with the combination of an AA adaptor (soft alum. housing) & hard poly bushings that don't "give" so your tcase bolts eventually loosen due to the torque of the motor. If you use rubber bushings w/ nylocks & don't torque them down *too hard, you'll prolly be better off. That has worked for me so far. I haven't had any problems with the plate style.

Thats what I've heard, didnt really wanna change them if I did t have to but also want it reliable, funny how popular that mount was, every cruiser I or my dad has owned (5) have had that mount on them

I have a vortec/4L60/LC 3spd. I am thinking about getting rid of mine due to how low my t-case sits. The front driveline angle is screwy. So, I need to raise the t-case up but that darn mount is hittin the body. I was gonna fab up a trans. mount to the extension housing adapter which has two threaded holes and leave the t-case dangling. Personally I don't like the design as it is hard to put everything together and seal it up at the same time. However, I will have to make the crossmember frame support which sits behind the t-case removable and re-position for easier t-case R&R. Maybe down the road I will purchase an ORION 3:1, until then this will have to sufice.

The only issue I have with mine is it leaks. With the toy box I cant really fit the mount to the case with studs and the bolts keep loosening up. IIRC the AA mount also lacks a return port to let oil drain back into the t-case so it pools around the tail end of the input shaft.

I have an Orion box so rotational torque shouldn't be an issue for me.

I just did a clutch replacement of my FJ60 and was looking at the removable cross member on that truck. It looks like it would bolt right up to the Toy Box on my FJ40. If I had it to do again I'd build a cross member under the toy box instead of using the AA propeller thingy.

so there wasnt so much of a problem with strength they just either came loose or leaked? i guess ill have to see if i have problems with them because i really dont wanna change two rigs, and one of them will probably get an auto and D300 next year with a centered cruiser axle.

I'm not changing mine until I have a reason to drop the transmission/t-case out.

maybe im just lucky, but i run a sbc sm465 to cruiser case with the aa propeller mount, i wheel pretty hard and have never had any problems with leaking or breakage.

I've never heard of any serious problems among the conversion crowd. I see the potential for problems in the unusual location of the mounting point, and the semi-firm frame mounts. I can imagine that some serious torque could snap it off the t-case, but that would have to be a really huge engine, and a havy foot. Talking about the kind of power that makes people replace diffs and birfs after a liesurly commute.

The way the idiot PO of my 40 did his conversion, he mounted the t-case onto the prop-style crossmember with flexible rubber mounts, but bolted the engine directly onto the stock F frame mounts with a jerry-rigged bracket. Flexible mounts and solid mounts on either end of a driveline are a recipe for unpleasantness. Then again, the PO in question did put a fawking chebby V8 in there, so I know he's whimsical in the brainpain...

* for you pro-V8 conversion guys out there, the last comment was intended for levity. No I don't think Chevota people are insane, how you mutilate your cruiser is between you and your cruiser.

i was about to say WTF, lol i have owned 3 cruiser with SBCs and 1 with the stock 1F and i would take a SBC over the stock engine anyday. onlything the stock 6 had going for it was really low RPM torque, but anyway i know what you mean, my dads cruiser was hard mounted engine with the propeller and it was a mess. i really think you need to take a test to buy a welder:hillbilly:

eh, everybody's got their own preferences. Me, I love those slow F's, and prefer the simplicity of an I6 configuration, but not everybody does. Every guy on 'Mud's got their view on what should and shouldn't be done to a cruiser; sometimes treadbrite cladding's seen as blasphemy, sometimes it's hacking the dash, or chopping the fenders. I prefer a cruiser that's got an unmolested body and drivetrain. Others see this view as impractical and dated, whatever. Like I said, the ending comment was sarcasm, intended for levity.

As to the sold and flexy mounts, I've read of breakage and even frame damage being a problem if the engine gets away from you. It looks like the AA V8 motor mounts have the same soft-ish mounts on it.
