Hey all,
Ok, I know that this has been beat into the ground and is old news for some but....
After reading for hours online at different sites about the "A-Trac Hack" I decided to give it a try. I do not have the button yet but wanted to see if it was worth buying so I placed a thick staple into the two wire slots that supposedly activate the A-Trac when you put the truck into 4L. I did this and then started the truck, all is fine at this point. Then I placed it into 4H and drove around, nothing so far, I then put it into neutral and then shifted into 4L and that is when it happened... the A-Trac light came on, so I put it in drive and then drove around in the mud for about three minutes with nothing happening, that sounded strange. The light stayed on, so I stopped at the base of a slightly steep muddy hill (it has rained here for the last two days straight) and switched on the Rear Diff lock. Everything stayed on including the A-Trac. I am unsure if the A-Trac is working as I have no place to test it where I would have two wheels off the ground at the same time to see if it truly works. Has anybody else done this and had it work the way it should? I also want to know if it is ok to just leave the staple (I am going to replace it with some sturdier auto electric wire) in place, as A-Trac only "kicks" on when you shift into 4H right? Would this be safe? Or should I wait until I get the switch. It seems logical that it would be ok to just leave it activated all the time, if I had the button I would just leave it turned on with that. What do the experts think?

Thanks,
Robert

Mine came from the factory with A-Trac...so I'm not going to be of much help. :)

All FJC's made after October/November 06 have the hack already done at the factory. Thats where ATrac engages with the rear locker engaged. Spend the $45 on the switch and be done with it! It'll look factory and you don't have to worry about having a wire come loose and possibly cause an electrical short. ATrac is king in my book! Was shown by Woody how to do it and I love it to death! It's gotten me in and out of a lot of crap!

Try the hill again but this time go slow and try to get stuck with the ATrac on. Increase your RPMs slowly until you get traction again and hold it at that RPM. You'll hear a lot of clicking and light groaning from the dash if it's working. (Best way I can describe it!)

I have an April 06 build and have done the hack. It wasn't working this last weekend because of a cold solder joint. (My bad) I'm re-doing the hack this week so I'll be back in business.

Good to know.
Robert
