The 40 got some new OEM fender lighting today, as I needed the old ones for my 1977. Turned out very nice and clean.

Also hit a great local BBQ joint yesterday.

Followed by some National Forest cruising on the way home.

Cruiser driving... BBQ... forest roads... seems the move back to CO is treating you just fine.

Colorado is much more friendly to leisurely Land Cruiser driving this time of year. I took mine out yesterday, actually drove it to work just cause I wanted to drive it... and fried, even with the AC running.

Yeah man, the summers here are wonderful. There’s really nothing like driving a 40 through the mountains. Great to be back.

Very nice looking ‘76. Completely original? Sure looks unmolested and intact.
Thanks. Yes, 100% original down to the paint. No rust either, which is certainly rare these days.

I’ve been very inspired by your thread, @samatulich. Our rigs are twins.

Both of the 40s were due for an oil change, so I went with Rotella 15W-40 and new OEM filters. The oil in the ‘76 was still really clean, but it had been quite a few years since I’d changed it. The yellow rig, Project Pikachu, gets driven heavily and was due based on mileage.

awesome thread! thanks for sharing. Years from now your kids will be posting these pics in the "back in the day" thread of them loaded up in the back on the jump seats. I'm REALLY looking forward to do the same with my 8 month old in the near future. Actually taking her on her first camping trip this week in my 60.

That night, I dropped it off at a friend's house in Scottsdale and flew back to Denver, anxiously awaiting the shipper to pick it up. Two days later, my auto shipper called me and said that he couldn't get it to start. Made no sense to me at all. This thing ran perfectly before. Anyway, he gave up and left, so I had to wait two more weeks for another shipper who could haul a non-running vehicle. Found out later that shipper #1 had pulled the choke so hard that it bent part of the carburetor linkage.

In the meantime, my buddy Rick, had a good time trying to diagnose the issue as the 40 waited for a shipper #2. Rick was a CJ-7 guy and got a kick out of pointing out a non-running FJ40 in his driveway.

It was finally loaded up and headed north.

great looking 40.

That transporter towing all that with a SRW truck is super sketch. I'd make sure to never use them again.

Yeah, my guess is that he was the cheapest guy that the original shipper could sub the job to after pulling the choke so hard that it bent my carburetor linkage and wouldn’t start. Luckily, it made it.

I haven’t had a chance to drive the 40 much lately with the roads being what they are at 9,100’ in the winter. However, it was a nice day here in Divide so I hit the town to run a few errands, followed by a drive to the back of my property to set a trap.

I’ve got a real bastard porcupine who is getting after my Ponderosa Pines, so I’ve baited him with salted apples. We’ll see what happens.

The 40 ran great. Got a full tank of non-ethanol gas to boot.
