My A/C stops blowing cold at idle. Is this normal.
Idles at around 600- 700 RPM.
If I stick my foot on the gas and bring the RPMs up over a thousand, I start to feel the lovely cold.
Is something amiss?
Thanks,
Toad

No not an issue. If you very slowly step on the gas you should hear a clicking sound near the glove box area, and the AC will kick on. I forget at what exact RPM speed it kicks in at. You can also adjust the AC amp below the glove box. You will notice a small blue adjusting knob closer to the shifter side to get it to stay on.

Could be that your A/C idle up solenoid has kicked the bucket. It sends vacuum to a plunger on the carb to raise RPMs when the AC is on.

Its on the drivers fenderwell next to the headlight washer bottle.

X2.

Just adjust the knob slowly until it kicks the compressor on at your desired RPM. Sometimes if you adjust your idle or tune it up you can be off just a hair on the a/c amplifier and it won't kick on at idle.

So on the A/C amp, there is a + and a -, if you are trying to get it to kick on at a 700 rpm idle, do you probably need to turn it towards the - ?
