Anyone in south OC recommend a place to take the cruiser in for what I hope is just an AC recharge that you TRUST?

Drove to Rancho Cucamonga today with no air at all. Blowing outside air temp only. Heat exchanger or R134a in need of a recharge after 23 years? Hope no major leaks in the system.

Really did prefer to avoid the dealer rip off.

I just bought two cans of the stuff from AutoZone and followed the direction. Worked great, did it about 2 years ago and still going strong.

Is it that easy?

Extremely. The can has good directions and the hook up is basically idiot proof since the high and low pressure lines have different fittings. I say it's definitely worth a shot to do it yourself.

Idiot proof is what I need! I break things.

I may have to do this as well. The AC system is a closed system. So I keep thinking that there is a leak somewhere in the system and that the above mentioned "fix" is only temp. Compressor is usually the item that needs to be replaced. Good luck Brent.

Well. It looks like the compressor may be shot. That little black disc on the front of the compressor is supposed to engage and spin, right? It doesn't! Instructions said to try adding refrigerant to see if it's engage and it doesn't seem to be adding any with the can connected . What's a new compressor I stayed going to cost?

just give me the 80 and go get the 200 and start a new build thread....

Jealousy will get you nowhere Pablo! Wife has instructions to bury me in the beast...working A/C or not!

I've seen Denso's running under $300. Yota parts sites list OEM at $718! I think for something like this, the Denso is probably fine. Would agree with your :meh: comment on the unknown origin Parts Geek compressor!

There are a couple of shops close by on the list from MACS that got posted on my thread about this in the 80's section I'll check out. No way to I want to go to a dealer on this. That'd easily be a $1200 bill! :moon:

ask Death valley Paul if he has one laying in his yard of parts.

How many bananas is this fix??

More than i want to do at this time!

Dumb Dumb Dumb. Evidently when I replaced my headlight bulbs with LED's I knocked loose an A/C sensor plug located in the battery tray on the DS Side just above the low beam bulb location - thus no power to the compressor! All it took was plugging that back in! :slap: :censor::censor::censor:

Kudos to John at SD Trux for tracing down this little electrical 'issue'. R134A was just fine as is the clutch and compressor. She blows cold as ice again.

I'm gonna check mine. I just remember that when my AC was working I would hear that little "click" inside the cabin and out in the engine bay when I would press the AC button on the dash and when it was running. I do that now and I don't hear the "click". If I do hear something it is very faint.

I have got to check mine too. My AC has been out for a while now. I am going to check the AC senor plug first as I was also messing around with my headlights. That could be it..... If not Autozone will be my next stop.

If all you need is r134a I've got a full can I'll sell you half price if you're close in south OC.

Thanks Brent! Yes I am interested. If you are around this weekend I can stop by and get it. Send me a PM if that works for you.

On 80s tech it was suggested to check the levels of refrigerant before adding refrigerant to the system. Does the store bought can attach to the AC line and read the level of refrigerant in the system? Or does it just read how much refrigerant goes in?
