Okay, worth a shot here,

I stored my wifes civic 99 LX with 98K original miles in the garage for about 4 months.

I started it up yesterday and everything was fine, then the engine startes revving up and down on its own. Up to about 2500 rpms then down below 1000. then back up.

I took the air cleaner off to see if a mouse had gotten in there or something. Nothing in there, clean. Air Filter is clean as well.

then the check engine light comes on.

I found a way to get the code which is telling me its an Idle Air Control Valve.

I have read a few posts on other Honda boards, and posed the same questions with no answers.

So I can take this off and clean it with carb/throttle body cleaner and that might do the trick. also heard check the PCV valve. I ordered a new one today from the Honda Dealer, since the old one is probably the original.

Can anyone think of anything else. I checked and I dont see any hoses loose or cracked which would cause a vaccum problem.

Its not like this has been sitting in the cold or heat for years. but 4 months in a covered garage. The gas is not that old to gum anything up at this point.

There is no issue with a loss of coolant and there are NO leaks anywhere on this. It has been a reliable car with 0 issues.

Thanks folks.

Remove the IAC valve and clean it..... If that does not do it you will need to replace it.....

FIXED. At least for today....

85 SA Toy, your spot on.

I got the PCV Valve today, and also got some exploded views of everything from the dealer, Least they could do for the 21 dollar PCV Valve.......

Anyway, the Haynes manual I had, did have photos and a write up, just not for my engine. The parts were nothing alike and thats what threw me for a moment.

I took the IACV off today, cleaned it up with TB cleaner. and also replaced the PCV valve since it was right under where I was working.

Started up and no issues. Let it idle for 30 mins. Waited for it to get hot enough and for the fan to kick on, No issues.
Ran the A/C with no issues either.

Good deal.
