Okay, worth a shot here,
I stored my wifes civic 99 LX with 98K original miles in the garage for about 4 months.
I started it up yesterday and everything was fine, then the engine startes revving up and down on its own. Up to about 2500 rpms then down below 1000. then back up.
I took the air cleaner off to see if a mouse had gotten in there or something. Nothing in there, clean. Air Filter is clean as well.
then the check engine light comes on.
I found a way to get the code which is telling me its an Idle Air Control Valve.
I have read a few posts on other Honda boards, and posed the same questions with no answers.
So I can take this off and clean it with carb/throttle body cleaner and that might do the trick. also heard check the PCV valve. I ordered a new one today from the Honda Dealer, since the old one is probably the original.
Can anyone think of anything else. I checked and I dont see any hoses loose or cracked which would cause a vaccum problem.
Its not like this has been sitting in the cold or heat for years. but 4 months in a covered garage. The gas is not that old to gum anything up at this point.
There is no issue with a loss of coolant and there are NO leaks anywhere on this. It has been a reliable car with 0 issues.
Thanks folks.
