98 4Runner SR5 help??

I am buying a 98 SR5 comes with a rear differential lock. I have a few questions:

1. Can I fit a 98 Ltd.'s hitch & roof rack onto the SR5 frame?

2. Can I fit a 98 Ltd's audio system onto the SR5?

3. How do I engage the rear differential lock? I went to low4 and pressed the diff lock button the light kept flashing but wouldn't engage. Or the light wouldn't stop flashing. I tried this in park, neutral and drive.

I would guess the hitch, rack would interchange just fine.
The audio system I have no idea if a LTD was different...perhaps??

Sounds like you are doing the right thing to engage the rear diff lock. I make sure it is in 4lo and the green 4 wheel drive indicator is on and then push the rear diff lock button

I usually do it in neutral...if it doesn't quit flashing/go solid I will slide it into drive and reverse allowing it to creep ahead or back a bit...someone mentioned to turn your steering a bit and go forward or back. It might take 20 or 30 seconds not an immediate thing on mine anyhow.

Thanks, I was a little confused choosing between the 2.7 & 3.4. 4Runners. It was mostly ur posts and some others that made me go for the 2.7 litre 98. The engine and body is mint with only 180K kms. on the odo. And all records till 2004. I've traded my 97 blazer (good motor but otherwise junk) and am paying $6800.00 for the 98 4Runner.

On my road tests I found the 2.7 litre to be sluggish as compared to the 3.4 and my blazer. But I was gentle on the throttle maybe I need to push it further.

I will try the diff lock again.

1. Yes, the hitch should fit no problem.

2. The 98 Limited had a stock amplifier. I'm not a stereo guy, so I don't know, but I think you have to bypass it somehow. Personally, if your stock unit has crapped out in your 4Runner, I'd get a nice aftermarket unit.

3. If the rear locker hasn't been engaged in a while, it will take some time to work. I usually just have the truck in Drive and it works fine. I do sometimes have to drive forward or reverse like Duane said to get it to engage. Once it's engaged, it will be easier the next time. Be sure to exercise it regularly.

Nope they aren't a speed demon. Well unless you just stepped out of a 60 series wagon with the 3B diesel
I agree with cackalak on an aftermarket stereo... just bought one for the girlfriends Civic from Future Shop. It's got the cable for an Ipod and controls it on screen. You have to buy an adapter chunk of wiring and plate but this all seems cheaper than trying to fix factory stereos.
My 96runner has a cassette and a cd...cd doesn't work and I have never tried the cassette. I just listen to the radio anyhow.

You can bypass the stock amp in the Limited- I did. Or you can add the amp and head unit from the Limited to the SR5. Or you can do better than all that and put in the Scion head unit....
