This is my 1st post(newbie). But am the proud owner of 3 landcrushers.95'-98' and 2004 landcruiser.I will own and operate nothing less. Now for the question,on my 98 landcruiser during the operation of the vehicles air canditioner ,it produces 1 helluva sound.Sounds like pipes whining. The sound lasts for about 2 to 3 seconds and occurs about every 10 to 20 mins of it's operation.Any input and or info would be greatly appreciated.Thank you and loooooong live the LANDCRUISER.....PS.This site is extremely helpful.Im glad i found it.

May want to take it to a AC specalist, one that you can trust. How long has this been going on? what part of the country are you in? Have you had any body look at it yet? If so what did they say? When did you first notice this sound and under what conditions? Is the serpetine belt new or old? How many miles on your truck?
More informations is always helpful than less. later robbie

I have a '98 and I've had it happen too, but not as regularly as yours. Mine does it sporadically. Took it to the dealer back when it was under warranty and naturally they couldn't duplicate the noise, nor were there any bulletins about it.

I have also noticed that sound, no idea what the cause is. I just ignore it. It be nice to know why it does that...

I have a 99.

Sorry,i've had the truck since new.The sound started happening sometime after if 1st year and the truck has 43,198 miles on it.Plus i have taken the truck to toyota and they are never able to duplicate the sound there, but as always i am on the ride back home.

I also have the problem. This is the issue I have posted about on here a couple of other times. I was not sure it was related to the AC until recently. The weather has gotten cool enough that I do not have to run the AC and I have not heard the noise.

Could there be a correlation between freon level and this noise? Does this noise appear periodically based on whether the freon is lower than normal? If it was all the time, you could contribute it to bearings or something, but it only happens sporatically and for onl a couple of seconds.
