I don't know about backspacing but
I know that the bolt pattern is the same
as long as the truck and 4-runner are
both 4-wheel drive ;)

The drivetrains are identical so the backspacing should be the same. Bolt pattern and center hole are identical, The only difference will be what style.

The '96 is coil spring, the '94 is torsion bar front suspension. If your going to fit '96 alloy wheels on '94 the center caps on the front will need a hole in them to clear the drive plate. Looks good with locking hubs, not so good with the drive plates.

I don't believe the backspacing is the same. The truck rims will probably stick out slightly more. This is definitely true with the steel wheels from 94-95 4Runners. I don't remember the exact measurements though.

Tacoma rims also stick out a little more than the 4Runner rims do. . .
