Hi everyone,

A car concept design ideas. Few months ago I was explaining my wife the science of Coefficient of Drag that is imposed on today’s cars and how adversely it effects the fuel economy when driving at highway speeds. There is a list of vehicles that show the Cd numbers and the GM EV1 winning #1 spot with the lowest Cd and the H2 Hummer ending at the bottom of the list.

To obtain the Low "Cofficent of drag" Cd numbers that a car needs to obtain very high fuel economy rates would to design a passanger vehicle with a fighter cockpit design and possibly three wheels to reduce the drag substantially.

Such a vehicle with advanced fuel managment system has designed to obtain 95 mpg with the performance of a super car.

Take a look at the URL and provide some opinions. The vehicle is in the X-prize compitition and may just win.

great idea and great performance...but wooooeeeee is that fuglyor what? I'd give up a few mpg's for better styling.

Well that is the whole idea of the styling. It is for the lowest Cd of drag. It is more built for function then styling. The design of the vehicle sure has a interesting look to it.

Hmmm. BS detector just went off when i read this:

It accelerates from 0-60 in 5 seconds, and will pull over 1.7 g’s in hard corner's on street tires. Brad Zimmerman, head tech for the company stated during testing at the Mission race track, “I drove it hard for 4 solid hours, throwing it into corners, accelerating and braking hard. The car’s performance is spectacular. After all that hard driving, we only went through $10 in gas.”

I thought the secret patented carburetor was bought and destroyed by the US government.

I watched a news clip on our local news on this car. Not quite as ugly from some angles, but still not the most versatile design on record.
Can't speak to the "vapour fuel" injection they talked about, but it had a Honda engine with a turbo on it, so perhaps the performance is realistic, but that is awfully high fuel economy - way higher than any motorcyles I've owned

I also was under the impression that a vapor fuel "carburator" was a very old design that was squashed by either the feds or the car companies.

I thought the secret patented carburetor was bought and destroyed by the US government.

They didn't destroy it. It's in Nevada with the Alien bodies and spacecraft ;)

In this age of advanced fuel injection, it would be funny if carbs were the wave of the future. I would be high tech again.
