My father is looking at 95 4Runner SR5 fully loaded 3.0L V6 Auto Red with 89,000 miles. He said its only had one owner and he kept all the service receipts. It has no rust and body is pretty much perfect. They PO even kept the window sticker when he bought and it went for around $30,00 back then. The PO traded it in and the dealership is asking $6900 for it. What are some of pros and cons that you guys have found? He thought it was quite weird that the sticker only said 14 city and 16 highway mpg. I suppose from being geared so low. Any info would very much appreciated..Thanks

It's funny though I find japanse engines usually do a bit better than the EPA and domestics almost always do worse... That's just my experience....

This is true..you are right..its too bad we(domestic) are just now producing vehicles that compared to Toyota and Honda quite a few years back....better late than never I guess..

It really may not be geared that low, the 3.slow wasn't Mr T's finest creation, but still better than the competition. 6900 seems a little high, if it was me it better have new tires, new timing belt, zero rust, and pristine interior. But it would be an excellent vehicle and worth the effort if he's in the market.

Might check with the 2nd gen board, get their expertise (I know ours says 95+ but that's refering to tacomas, and 96+ 4runners). Good luck.

Personally, I'd skip on the 2nd Gen and go for a 3rd Gen with the 3.4L engine. You can get a higher mileage (100-150k) 3rd Gen for that same price. Even with a rear locker.

3.0 were/are dogs.
3.4 more power

I did post on the 2Gen as well. He talked to them down to$5900. He said the PO was really anal about it so its in pretty much mint condition. He said there is no wear on the driver seat at all..He wasn't really looking for one at all he just saw it one day driving buy at a dealership.

1: dont buy a 14 year old car from a dealership. 2: dont pay over 5G's for it, especially if its 3: a 2nd gen 4runner with a slushbox. i bet the dealership bought it for 3 grand, tops. offer them 4, then walk if they dont bite within 2-500 dollars from that.

The guy who had it traded it in for something else so it hadnt sat there long and my dad isnt goin to drive it very much since it is in such good condition..he had asked 5700 for it but the dealer said no and there was somebody else in there looking at it as well so he bit the bullet and bought it..

Ouch. Sounds like he got taken. Guaranteed that even though there MIGHT have been somebody looking at it, they were probably offering the dealer the same low offer. I hate dealerships and their tricks.

Well, best of luck to him. They're not BAD rigs, but I would personally feel much better with a 3rd Gen with a 3.4L. Even with double the miles, I'd still take a 3rd Gen. He'd better keep an eye on that head gasket.
