95 4 Runner Manual - Won't Go In Gear When Started

I have a 1995 4 Runner that will not go in gear when engine is started, however it will go in gear with the engine turned off, i had to have it towed home, so any help will be appreciated.

Sounds clutch related. When the truck is off and in gear, if you start it with the clutch pushed in, does the truck lurch forward as in it wants to go?
Does your clutch pedal come all the way off the floor on its own?

Thanks for your reply, I found out what the issue is, the clutch pedal bracket has a crack in it which is not engaging the clutch properly, apparantly this seems to be a common issue. I will try and get a new ordered and let you know if is sorts it out.
