I hope someone will answer my question. The car always started without any issues. It an original starter. Today, I turned the key on and nothing, not even a click. I took a hammer and smacked the starter a couple of times and she started right up. Now, shall I replace the starter or starter contacts? What do you gus think?

Thanks,
Alex

Usually it's only the contacts alex and is a common issue on camrys

Wes,

You are 100% right, I should have to replace the contacts, but I can't be without the car (my 70 is for sale and I am not driving it). I decided to replace the whole thing and I am glad I did. Most of the teeth of the gear (Bandix) were badly chiped and I would definetly had to replace it also, meaning rebuilding the starter. I bought one in Pep Boys for $85.00 with 1 year warranty and it took me about 30 minutes to replace it.

Thanks,
Alex
