Found an 87 Land Cruiser for sale in Carson that was listed last week. Went and took a look at took her for a drive. I am definitely going to pass (as you can see by the pics) as I need something more put together and in better condition than this.
So figured I would throw it out to the locals.
Here is what I found wrong with it...
- Interior is DIRTY and will need a serious cleaning (headliner in decent condition though)
- Dash is cracked badly in multiple places
- Drivers seat MUST be replaced
- Drivers/Passengers doors panels are messed up
- Knuckles need rebuild badly
- Power Steering pump is leaking all over
- Springs are FLAT (I mean as in straight as an arrow flat)
- Paint is faded all over
- Carb needs to be rebuilt (owner said it was sitting for three years with only occasional driver around house)
- Small amount of rust (not really bad) on frame (none in wheel wells)
- Shocks are gone (sways like the car in Uncle Buck)
- Stock rims but different tires on each one and no spare
The good,
- Body seems straight with little rust
- Only found one small area of damage
- Engine pulls strong
- Transmission shifted great and went into gear with little issue (no strange noises or feelings through clutch pedal or stick)
- Went into 4x4 without issue and freehubs moved in and out of lock without issue, grinding, or general feeling of stiction.
- Heater does work and there is also the rear heater located under the passenger seat
- Rear carpet has recently been replaced along with carpet on back of rear seat (color is close but does not match)
- No rust on the rear gates at all but the struts are gone
- Glass is in good condition but tinting is peeling
All in all she drove well but needs quite a bit of work. Definitely not worth the $2200 (one is S. Lake that pops up every once in a while is in better condition for same price). If I had the cash and time I would offer the guy probably $1000 to start (oh and its at a dealership - Advanced Auto)
Here is the link to the pics I took.
