Anybody interested in my '86 up here in Montana?
I rebuilt the engine with Toyota rings, bottom end and a DOA c270 cam. Crank was machined .25 undersized. Stock pistons.
K&N fipk intake
4 to 1 header of unknown origin with new exhaust
LC adjustable cam gear (these things are really cool, you can make an engine really lay down and crawl!)
Fresh toyota timing chain/tensioners etc...
Ring and pinions are 5.29 yukons that I set up last summer. Solid spacer sleeve in the rear of course...
It has a welded rear and an easy locker up front,
emu torsion bars with ball joint spacers and monotube shocks. Rear springs are downeys.
Steering is Heim joints w/ high misalignment spacers on chromoly tie rods from Baja Racing Procucts. Probably overkill, but it won't ever break a tie rod or tweak out a centerlink. I also put a downey idler arm gusset on and a new steering damper.
Hannehan fiberglass front fenders with the big wheel openings. Still white ...
80 % 34x9.50 swamper tsl -on ruff stuff beadlocks.
Optima red top battery.
Square tube .25 wall sliders.
We freshened up the interior with new carpet, a 90s split bench and a new XM cd player. It doesn't smell or anything...
It has a hoopty bobbed flatbed and no front bumper, kind of an ugly duckling but really good wheeling rig.
New starter, fan clutch, water pump, fresh radiator, new fuel pump, fuel filter, clutch, brakes, leads, etc... all the nickel and dime stuff it takes to revive an old basket case truck
I've been running it for work and getting 18-20 mpg highway even with the swampers and 5.29s!
I've spent about $5,000+ on it... a bit to much to recoup, but I'd like to see maybe $3500 and the truck go to someone who will finish it off and wheel on!
I am planning to replace it with an FZJ 80 or an FJ 60 to set up for wheeling with the whole family and to use for Montana bush appraisal/expedition stuff, the same thing I use this '86 for. I'd like to keep it around to give to the kids later on, but right now I don't have enough parking to keep it and a cruiser at the same time! Besides, if I kept it inevedably it would get a solid axle, marlin crawler, more tubing, more, more, more... and I already have a '94 like that to use for hard core, so I just don't need it that bad.
Anyway it would be a really good start for somebody. I got all the bugs worked out, it's built enough to wheel really good, but not so built that you can't make it your oun if you take it from here!
I'll even throw in a case of
.
still having trouble with pictures here so if your interested at all pm me with your e-mail and I'll send you some pics.
Thanks guys! Wheel on!
