I have been looking to get an 80 series for a while and have liked the idea of looking for one with stock running boards still on. It's in no way something I have to have, but I have heard that it's a bit more appealing and reassuring to see that one you are thinking of buying still has them. This being, for the hope that the previous owner didn't do much offroad...

Just a thought, and what i've heard. But, when removing them are there any cosmetic issues that arise? Any odd looking spots after the running boards are removed? Seems like a while back I heard something about needing to put front mud flaps on if running boards were removed....

Thanks!

For me it was a zero issue, mine came new without running boards, so had 4 mud flaps. Running boards, if all bashed up would be an indicator that it been wheeled, but some have wheeled carefully and not bashed them, so your best bet is to inspect under the rig for damage, running boards or not.

Factory running boards can be removed without drama, if you want them, front mud flaps can be added and the rig will look like a poverty pack stock rig.

The stock mud flaps are relatively solid, if you land on one off-road, flares can be damaged. I took mine off for the trail, reinstalled for town, highway, did it a few times, now they have been sitting in the shop for about four years.:hillbilly:

so when you took the flaps off, it doesn't look like something was physically there before hand? I'm just curious about holes or something odd looking...

it might not matter in time, but i still care at the moment :D
