Don’t forget to spray that inner area of cleaned sheet metal with some zinc-weld primer or similar equivalent.
For sure! If i can get to it and i dont need to weld it all surfaces get a coat of primer and top coat of acrylic. Otherwise its got thay copper weld through primer.. ill put seam sealer on the backside of the inner fender and on any of my patches to stop moisture getting through. Also got some cavitiy sealer for the inside but havent used that yet

Got some time in the shed tonight... bit closer..

Wow that looks killer!

Wow that looks killer!
Thanks!! I've tried to do it without cuts but all the forming tends to contract the initial outline i used to cut flat steel. I figured a few cuts to get the right shape saves considerable time considering i dont have a shrinker or stretcher on hand. Few welds and a bit of bog and no one but me qnd you guys would know..

more grinding and shaping tonight.. as well as undoing some of my previous work..

The rear quarter was abot 3/4" too far inboard compared to the other side at the rear of the wheel arch so I've had to undo the spot welds so it comes out.. less than ideal but in the scheme of things not that big a hurdle..

Also started looking at how to tie the front and rear of the wheel arch into existing panels..

Got the rear glass out without incident.. telstra rope and bike tyre levers for the win!!

so while the glass and seals are in good condition.. the frames are less so..

also got the windscreen out. I ended up cutting the windscreen seal cos it was brittle and falling apart and i have a new one.

This let me get the head liner and sound deadener out. Discovered something had made its home up there at some stage..

That lower forward corner of the cargo windows seems to be a notorious area. Mine has some rot too, glad to have caught it now than to have let it get worse. Cool you were able to save your seals, mine were junk and got the knife.

Ahh what lurks beneath...glad you salvaged the rubber.

roof rust
I keep thinking about doing more cleanup on the tub then I remember all the wire wheel work I need to do and just shake my head.

Looking at that it makes me think all the stuff i've done to date has been easy compared to whats to come!

You mastered the fender lip...I still think that was the toughest.

a question for the brains trust...

I'll be going down a similar road that @tatat took with his 55 roof by cutting across the front (or even considering spot welds along the windscreen from the a pillar outer all the way into the roof section) and undoing the spot welds around the gutter. My gutters and roof inners will need replacing. from the look i had today this will still leave the inner skin in place, and just allow the removal of the bit between the roof and inner skin (being the top of the outer skin into the gutter)

I noticed he didnt have any bracing apart from the stock roof bracing and I was wondering if I should add bracing before removing a heap of roof and gutter.

I was considering bracing allowing the removal of the gutter/outer skin and help maintain position. I guess it can't hurt and would be additional insurance things wont move if given the chance...

thoughts?

Well, you know it has to be done. I don’t like it anymore than you do. Unfortunately, doing things right often means a whole bunch of work.
Looking at that roofline, I think my approach might be to do it in small sections, rather than cut out the entire piece. Do you have access to a sheet metal brake? If you did, you could bend up the pieces to replace the rotted roof and gutter simultaneously.
Definitely not beyond what you already did with those fenders. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
