My daily driver has just started with a strange new issue. When I turn the key to the first position it bumps the starter momentarily. I still have to turn it all the way to start it but my fear is this will get worse and the starter will actually engage just by turning the key one position. I would think that would leave me stranded on the spot. Any experience with this one folks?

Correction, it's not the first position that bumps the starter its actually the "ON" position. I've noticed now that it seems to do it after I've driven for a few miles, not first start in the morning. Not sure if that's a clue that could point to the starter being hot?

just a wild guess but the ignition circuit could be grounding on the other position. might have to do a clean up on the contacts or replace with a new one!
