I have two 100's that are due for Diff and TC, a GX460 that is about due for diffs, a 4runner that is about to come up on 36,000. Everything is going to get 75W90 except the TC's in the GX and the 4R which will both get a mix of lubricant, pixie dust, and liquified diamonds (Toyota 75W TC fluid). I will likely replace the 10mm hex insanity with either the lexus or AUS alternatives.

What chaps me to no end, both toyota and lexus spec "inspect diff fluid, TC fluid, etc"... in 40,000 miles on the lexus and 32,000 on the 4R they only shine a flashlight and look for leaks. Which I appreciate but.... that doesn't tell me if my fluid is golden honey or chocolate milk.. anyway.. if you want it done and for the rig to last 400,000+ do it yourself..

My plan is to knock this out in a day. I will use a motive pressure tank to fill the 75W90. Any ideas for someone who has a bulk price on what I am going to approximate at 6 gallons. I know the fill values on the diffs are under three and just under 1.5, but real life tells me shoot for 3 and 1.5 in the rear/front respectively on all of them and 1.5QT in the 100's TC's.

Looking at mobil 1 delvac 1 in 1Gal containers but could probably do 5GAL pails too.

Dear lord my garage is going to reek for days.

I have been using M1 Delvac 1 75W-90 and 75W-140 RL (in place of straight 90) for ages on mine.

Quick google search shows a few different vendors advertising 5gal buckets of Mobil 1 Delvac 75w90 for about $250 delivered. Interestingly some advertise it as '38 lb pail' and the description shows 4.6 gallons? Either way bulk seems to be more expensive than buying 1 gal containers (about $40 each from Summit or Jegs). Hope this helps!

i used to buy a 12 pack of Valvoline Gear oil on Amazon for about $80, but i Just checked and its "no longer available" which is a shame, because that was a good value. Let us know if you find a good source, I also have a small fleet of Toyota Trucks that I maintain, and it gets expensive.

Summit, for the win.

I ended up with 6 gallons of Delvac 1 75w90 and a new motive fluid transfer cannister (my current is dedicated for brake flush). for about $320 - free shipping.. price was just a few $ between Summit and Jeggs, and a whopping $16 a gallon cheaper than walmart! Dealers quoted between $160-$200 for each axle. When all is said and done I figure the DIY (and this shouldn't be hard) route saves about $1700 in my fleet. Spouse still doesn't agree that I should get any % of that savings for a discresionary fund.. lol..

Sourcing the washers from the dealer, you want 11 of those, 11, like 10+1?

Interestingly the Lexus dealer only quoted $156 for the T/C service. I'm assuming that doesn't include the $150 worth of 75W, but instead a quick fill with 75w85.

At $156 with the 75W I'll take it!

So.. silly question but does the "locking center diff" within the 100 series TC need LS additive, I don't find it mentioned anywhere for the TC, but for the special JDM 100's and LX's so equipped. I've always used the Mobil 1 gear oil in the past that had the LS additive. Delvac doesn't have the additive.

Secondly, I am swapping out the recess key'd plugs in my GX460 when I perform this service. Has anyone swapped those on a 100? I found Lexus and Toyota drain/fil plugs with bolt heads VS recessed key holes for the front diff on that.

Thanks.

Second parts guy at the dealer about fell out when I asked for my 11 121571-10010 washers. "How many rigs do you have?" I retorted with, how many for a fleet discount?

Never heard of an LS additive being used in the diffs or TC on these trucks.

The Delvac 1 you purchased is supposed to be great for the TC. It's what I have used my past two changes. I run Delo ESI 80w90 in my diffs.

GX , except TC is done. The front diff is cute. At 40k with a small bit of towing (very light duck boat) and a roof box here and there I was surprised and how dirty it was. Changed the front diff plugs out for 14mm.

02 100 went easy peasy, greased the U’s and the slips while under there. Lube was dirty but nothing abnormal. Little bit of metal “chips” in addition to the normal sludge. On the magnet.

06, looks like the dealer put it all back together with an impact, last time . Going to do the penetrating oil for a week and see. Picked up a 15/16 as well. Couldn’t get the rear diff fill or T/C fill to budge. Didn’t try the front.

Realized the 06 front skid is shorter than the the 02. I have to drop the 02 plate entirely to access the front diff. The 06, not at all.

I’ve removed the plastic “splash guards” long ago.

Motive filler made it easy.

Still trying to find the Toyota 75W stuff for less than $100 a liter for the GX and the 4R
