74fj40 vs 97fj80 axles are they both 4:10's?

I seem to be getting mixed messages about the fj40 ratios. I thought most of the cruisers came with 4:11's. Some are saying 4:10's. Since I am considering using one 1974 40 axle and one 1997 80 axle I really need to make sure I get this right. Are they both 4:10's or is just the 80 the 4:10 and the 40 a 4:11? Thanks

I can't remember off the top of my head but I think they are 4.11's, but it really doesn't matter since they are oly off by.01. That's nothing, I know guys running 5.29's in the rear and 5.38's in the front of their solid axle Tacomas. Just slap em in and you should be good.

I was wondering the same. I took a front axle from a 78 and put it in my 74 for the disk brakes. I haven't drove it yet.( Set the seats tonight so I can drive it tomarrow)
I figured I'd pop it into 4 wheel drive and see it they match.

You are ok, but had you gotten your front axle from a 79 to 83, they have the 3.73 gear ration like the FJ60's.

Looks like mix and match with the axles will work. Thanks for the input :)

78 axles should work in your early. I had to swap the pumpkins when I put 79 axles in my 71. The change date was 2/79 I think. Then FJ62s went back to 4.11
