It appears the fuel tank straps are too short? Are they supposed to have a space between the end and the floor? I found this not great picture that shows the same condition on another 73. Is this correct?

I'll be in the garage today where my 73 is stored. Will look at it. As I remember when I pulled the tank around 2006 to check for rust the strap did not touch the tub. My thought was it but was inside on the bolt between the strap and tub it could between against tub. That way you never have to worry about the bolt loosening up. Arizona has plenty of washboard roads that can rattle fillings in your teeth loose.

Any pics between the bottom of the strap and the floor board? Where the floor mat is covering. I put 3/4” neoprene spacers on mine to cushion.

There is a gap between the bracket and floor board. I'm thinking there needs to be some type of spacer. I might have to investigate in the new year and come up with a solution.

Nothing shown on the microfiche

I was unable to find the bolt PN in the EPC. It looks like a 93180- ?? Slotted hex head, M6-1.0 x 40mm maybe? 93180-16040, or 16045? All the 93180- style bolts are NLA best I can tell.

Thanks for the info.

Probably a 1 year only 73 specific, strikes again.

Both of mine have the gap in front.

Thirty years stored in different locations including outside with no top and just a tarp crap has built up.

Toyota used the locking nut on the back side of the B pillar to lock either hard top side or B pillar soft bow in place.

The suffix code should be your clue. They wouldn’t call for a 40 or 45mm bolt if the strap was to fit flush. There is supposed to be a gap.😉

I plumbed my air tank pressure switch today. I used a 1/2 x 1/4 NPT bushing then a 1/4 NPT to 1/4 BSP to adapt to the pressure switch. I plan to wire this in series with the switch in the cab to pick up a relay to engage the compressor clutch.

I am using the correct backlit headlight switch this time. Considering using the backlit Hazard switch also. Were these hazard switches used in the Fj40 in non-US markets?

I could not find any other knob used on the hazard switch. At one time I thought about finding lighted switches off other Toyota vehicles. But on a 73 with one year only knobs for the heaters would keep it original.

I'm going to use this from cruiser corps I think, didn't see this first time searching.

I am using the early bib on my truck. These use the domed headlight buckets. I also have the factory AC radiator and am finding the two want to occupy the same space. My truck is a 73 and I see the correct radiator support and shroud is for a 72-75. But looking at the 76-80 version, it looks like it would be a direct fit also. They appear to take the same radiator. Also, there was a change in 1980 to a different support and shroud. There is conflicting information if the radiator also changed in 1980.

I am asking for the collective experience of the forum to get the radiator/support/shroud compatibility information in one spot.

I am leaning toward just getting an 80+ support and shroud if I can find one because I think it will likely put the fan hole in the same spot as my factory AC setup.

One item verified, the 75+ FJ40 radiator 16400-61020 was used to the end of the 40 series in the US, except the 79+ trucks with factory AC has a radiator that is about 2" wider with a different support and shroud to accommodate the extra width.
