if this RJ70 has dana axles would all/some of the brake parts be non-toyota? I thought a lot of central and south american trucks had those, not sure if it would make a difference here though.

Hello,

Heavy duty 70 Series assembled from CKDs use Dana 60 rear axles. Brake parts are all Toyota, though.

I know of no Light Duty 70 Series built from CKDs either.

Some markets had front brake drums.

Aside from ordering online using the part numbers Onur / @Onur supplied, it may be worth going to the local Toyota parts supplier and ask using those part numbers.

Just wanted to post an update here. I decided my truck was too sketchy to drive a little while ago as the braking became inconsistent. After collecting all the parts, I did the disc brake conversion this weekend. I was able to source a knuckle rebuild kit and new rotors from cruiser outfitters as well as all the 60 series disc brake front end components from another mud member. I replaced most of the hardware using oem stuff, which adds up pretty fast but I think it's worth it. Overall very happy to have the upgrade. I spent way too much time trying to find replacement parts for the front drums, from other vehicles, aftermarket, rebuild kits, waiting weeks to find out an ordered part is not actually available, blah blah blah. I think the conversion is the best way forward, it just kind of sucks that all this is necessary when your brakes need a service. Just have to bite the bullet.

Off topic but also a cool upgrade - I took the opportunity to install one of the cable locking differentials I've been sitting on, along with chromoly axles and heavy duty aisin hub selectors. Still need to figure out how I'm going to do the cable routing and sensor wiring, but at least I have the 70 series handles and 12v signal tachometer to start. I would have preferred to make it look new before putting it on but timing didn't work out that way and the tolerances checked out, so not pretty but good to go. I'll get to it eventually...

@RJ70nomad If you want to stick with your drums I won't be keeping anything from my old setup. If there's anything I can do that might be helpful just send me a pm. Happy to measure things, send pictures, and if you want any parts you can have them for the cost of shipping. Everything except the wheel cylinders should still be usable.

Hi there. It's been a while since this thread... I ended up getting 2 used front drums is panama but not perfect. Any chance you still have your old drums? Can't afford the axle disc swap you did. Had an opportunity a while back, now kicking myself because I spent close to the axle olny price already (1000us).

No, all of that stuff is long gone. Sorry
