Its time to install my new Uniden CB in my '87 BJ-73. Just wondering if anyone has some pics of their CB installs. There's a couple spots that seem OK, I'm just curious if anyone has any more creative ideas for the mount. Thanks alot! ... :)

Hand-unit sits in a clip on the front of the center-console.

Hey Moose, could you not get it to sit further back? Should it not come flush?

I was trying to see if there was any knuckle skin on the cb:D

PO put this little Uniden 40 channel HF in mine and it works well, pity theres nothing but tards to talk to:rolleyes:

Its a bit small for the hole but you can buy aluminum squares you cut out and make a bezel
Microphone clip is on the dash at a handy height.

Really depends how much you change the channel.

I've had them in the dash, on the dash and up in the roof console. I prefer up topside because frankly you tend to sit on the same channel your 4x4 club or mates sit on and it doesn't make much difference past that...

No, it's twice as deep as the stereo. Not ideal for sure, but it works and it isn;t flopping around on the floor.

Realistically, I think I might pull it eventually, nobody talks on them here o the Island.

Nowadays the truckers are using commercial radios. They are on the LAD channel. I run a commercial radio. I have it programmed for all the logging roads for each district. About 170 channels. The commercial freqencies are between 136-170ish megahertz.

I own a Vertex. Cb's though are still used by many clubs.

Truckies here still use the old 27 meg channels for long distance and often have a 40 channel for close up chats ,which is what I want

I carry both a 27mhz and a 477mhz in my truck also carry a wideband scanner than can pick up digitally encrypted frequencies if you set it right.

Get to listen to aircraft flying overhead and air traffic control discussions with commercial jets etc.

I believe that 27mhz requires an amateur operator license to transmit in Canada.

BB, what are the requirements for your VHF?

the radio shops will program and lock it on road frequencies. You have to register it to the vehcile. They give you the form. No licence needed. Unless you want to program it.

Basically, a commercial radio. Like what you see in Gov trucks. or logging trucks.

I like it cause all the good roads I travel on are logging roads. And you are not allowed on them with out a radio or an escort. And if you've driven these roads you know what I mean, as thos big rigs drive full out and take up the whole road. Run into an offroad logging truck and chances are you will die.

But the wheeling is nice, lots of great lakes and trails.

Yeah, my dad runs logs in the winter in Ft. Nelson, and the last thing you want into unexpectedly on a narrow, icy road is 100,000 pounds of Kenworth in a hurry.

27.085 - 27.225mhz or thereabouts is the old 18 channel CBers frequencies. Outside of that is HAM territory and your supposed to have a lic.
Ive heard a lot of people abuse that these days but lic HAMs wont talk to you;)

I like the Cobra 75WXST...it takes way less room to mount and then you can transfer your unit from one rig to the next (as long as you have an additional control unit mounted in the other rig)
